What to pay attention to during the recovery phase of pneumothorax surgery

Nowadays, many people prefer to be tall and thin, so many tall and thin people are proud of them. However, a survey shows that tall and thin young people are prone to pneumothorax. There are many reasons for pneumothorax. If you suffer from pneumothorax, it will cause difficulty in breathing. In severe cases, it may even cause shock or death due to difficulty in breathing. The current method of treating pneumothorax is to evacuate and drain the chest cavity or perform chest surgery. Even so, many patients with pneumothorax have relapses and it is not easy to cure. Now let’s talk about what you need to pay attention to during the recovery phase of pneumothorax surgery and how to prevent the recurrence of the disease.

Note 1: Rest in bed more often.

Less exercise for one month. Regular work and rest schedule, scientific lifestyle and diet. The room can be properly ventilated during the day to allow for more oxygen. Observe the degree of the patient's chest pain, cough, and dyspnea, and changes in the patient's breathing, pulse, blood pressure, and complexion. Contact your doctor promptly and take appropriate measures.

Note 2: Speak less and don’t speak loudly.

Keep calm and don’t get angry. Not impatient, not sad, not laughing. Reduce activity, keep bowel movements open, avoid holding your breath, and take appropriate bowel movement measures when necessary.

Note 3: Pay attention to your diet

Take the initiative to drink more water, and use diet therapy to prevent colds and coughs, replenish lung qi, blood qi, and replenish deficiency and cold. The patient should fast after the operation and continue gastrointestinal decompression until intestinal peristalsis is restored and anal gastrointestinal gas is discharged, then the gastric tube can be removed. After that, liquid and semi-liquid food can be gradually resumed. The eating time after intestinal surgery should be postponed as appropriate.

Note 4: Try to avoid coughing and give cough suppressants if necessary.

It is appropriate to eat some foods that clear lung heat, such as rock sugar and snow pear soup, pig lung, blood red, orange, etc., to nourish the kidney and lung qi, replenish blood, and prevent colds and coughs.

Note 5: Take more deep breaths

If accompanied by phlegm and cough, effective breathing can help cough out the phlegm, and soaking your feet in warm water can help promote blood circulation. Properly massage the head, face, upper and lower limbs several times a day for a few minutes each time to enhance resistance and prevent respiratory and lung diseases. If you can adapt in autumn, you can wipe your face with cold water to increase your resistance to cold.

Note 6: Seek medical attention promptly.

Patients with pneumothorax who have colds, coughs, bronchitis, etc. should take medicine as prescribed by the doctor, and can also be given oxygen inhalation or nebulization treatment. After one month, you can practice Tai Chi or take a walk in a park with plenty of oxygen, do yoga or flexibility exercises to help the recovery of pneumothorax. It is best not to do strenuous exercise or overwork within 3 months to avoid recurrence of pneumothorax.

Note 7: Assist patients to cough and expectorate

Encourage patients to take deep breaths and get out of bed early to prevent complications such as postoperative intestinal adhesions and lung infections.

Note 8: If there is an abdominal drainage tube, it must be properly fixed, the drainage must be kept unobstructed, and the patient must be closely monitored. If the amount of fresh blood discharged exceeds 100 ml per hour, the doctor should be notified for treatment, and the area around the drainage should be kept dry and clean.
