What are the treatments for felty syndrome

Felty syndrome is an autoimmune disease. The characteristic of this disease is that it is a severe rheumatoid arthritis that combines rheumatoid arthritis, splenomegaly and leukopenia. However, it has many differences from rheumatoid arthritis. At present, the cause of Felty syndrome is not very clear. Patients suffering from this disease should pay attention to a reasonable daily diet in their lives, not be picky eaters, eat more fish, eggs, shrimp, bean products, beef, chicken and other foods. Patients should try to eat less chocolate, peanuts, cheese, etc. Now let’s talk about the treatments for Felty syndrome.

Treatment of felty syndrome

1. Hormones

It is usually listed as the first choice of drug, but the effect is only transient and rarely complete relief. Recent reports have shown that hormone shock therapy can be effective.

2. Splenectomy

Splenectomy is recommended for patients who are unresponsive to hormone therapy and whose granulocyte count is lower than 1.0×109/L, accompanied by severe anemia (hemolytic) or thrombocytopenia, and recurrent infections. 80% of patients can achieve hematological improvement after surgery, and recurrent infections and leg ulcers also often improve.

3. Other treatments

Anti-rheumatic preparations, penicillamine, and gold preparations can all be tried. However, due to low granulocyte count, immunosuppressants should be used with caution. Recent reports have shown that the combined use of hormones and Tripterygium wilfordii can alleviate the condition.

4. Symptomatic treatment

Use antibiotics with the least antigenicity possible to control the infection. Because many antibiotics can aggravate the existing immune response in the body, antibiotics should be used with caution to treat this infection.

Felty syndrome prevention:

1. Eliminate, reduce or avoid pathogenic factors, improve living environment and space, develop good living habits, prevent infection, pay attention to food hygiene, and prepare meals reasonably.

2. Pay attention to physical exercise to increase the body's disease resistance, avoid excessive fatigue and over-consumption, and quit smoking and drinking.

3. Early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment, build confidence in overcoming the disease and persist in treatment.
