Nowadays, people are increasingly aware that physical health is very important. Therefore, once a disease problem occurs, it should be treated in a timely manner. Hypertension is a common disease problem. Therefore, taking antihypertensive drugs to treat high blood pressure is also a treatment method. If you take antihypertensive drugs for a long time, you should pay attention to some side effects. So which blood pressure medication is good for long term use? 1. Diuretics It is effective, inexpensive, and has been proven to reduce the incidence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular complications in patients with hypertension. Commonly used drugs: hydrochlorothiazide 12.5-25 mg, once a day, or amiloride 5-10 mg, once a day. Please note that hydrochlorothiazide is contraindicated for gout patients. Hydrochlorothiazide may have adverse effects on sugar metabolism and lipid metabolism. Pay attention to blood sugar and blood lipids when using it. Hydrochlorothiazide can also cause low potassium and low magnesium. The above side effects increase with increasing dosage and should be avoided with caution. 2. Beta-receptor blockers It is a class of safe and effective antihypertensive drugs. Commonly used drugs include metoprolol, atenolol, bisoprolol, etc. Note that it should be used with caution or in reduced dosage if patients have bronchial asthma, sick sinus syndrome, severe atrioventricular block, or severe heart failure. 3. Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI) It is a class of safe and effective antihypertensive drugs. Large-scale clinical trials have confirmed that ACEI can significantly reduce the occurrence of cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and renal complications of hypertension, and can prevent and reverse hypertrophy of the myocardial and vascular smooth muscle caused by hypertension. Commonly used drugs: captopril, enalapril, benazepril, perindopril, etc. Cough is the most prominent side effect of ACEI. Although ACEI has a protective effect on the kidneys, it should be used with caution in patients with renal insufficiency (serum creatinine concentration greater than 265 μmol/L) or renovascular hypertension. 4. Calcium channel blockers (CCBs) It is a class of antihypertensive drugs that are safe, effective and have fewer side effects. Commonly used drugs: nifedipine sustained-release tablets, nitrendipine, felodipine, amlodipine, etc. There are many CCB drugs with reliable antihypertensive effects. In order to achieve the goal of steady blood pressure reduction, it is recommended to use long-acting preparations. For patients with hypertension and myocardial ischemia caused by coronary heart disease, try to avoid using short-acting CCBs, such as ordinary tablets of nifedipine. Large-scale clinical trials have shown that the use of short-acting CCBs in patients with hypertension and myocardial ischemia increases the incidence of cardiovascular events. 5. Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) It is a class of antihypertensive drugs that are safe, effective and have few side effects. Commonly used drugs include: telmisartan, losartan, valsartan, etc. |
