2. If the eyeball atrophies due to work-related injuries, car accidents or blindness, the best time to install the device is six months to one year. Eye atrophy is a relatively serious condition with many causes, including congenital eye hypoplasia or acquired diseases, such as eye trauma causing eye perforation or rupture, prolapse of eye contents, severe uveitis, retinal detachment, ciliary body cryotherapy or photocoagulation in the absolute stage of glaucoma, etc. Once the eye atrophy and becomes smaller, even if a little light sensitivity may remain, vision cannot be restored because the intraocular structure has been severely damaged and cannot be restored. However, both of the above situations may cause discomfort due to the pressure of the eye lens on the eyeball, and the gravity of the eye lens accelerates the atrophy of the eyeball. Some patients eventually choose to remove the eyeball.

2. Severe eye atrophy

If the eyeball is severely atrophied, or if the eyeball is mildly atrophied but accompanied by obvious inflammatory discomfort, enucleation of the eyeball and implantation of an artificial eye socket should be considered. During the operation, the eyeball is first removed, then a spherical orbit is implanted to fill the eye socket, and then the surface tissue of the eye is sutured. Generally, you need to stay in the hospital for one week, and then rest for another 3-4 weeks. You can wear eye contacts after the swelling subsides and the wound heals.
