Shell beads and pearls, do you know the differences?

Shell beads and pearls, do you know the differences?

Everyone is familiar with pearls, and they are also a kind of ornament that is deeply loved by female friends. However, there is another kind of ornament called shell pearls, which are very similar to pearls, making it difficult for people to distinguish them. In fact, there are many differences between the two in terms of weight, color, gloss, size and appearance. People need to distinguish the difference between the two in order to select authentic pearls.

1. What exactly are shell beads?

Shell pearl, the name sounds like a kind of pearl, but it is far from being a pearl. In fact, shell beads are imitation fake pearls. They are not jewelry at all. At best, they are handicrafts. Little girls who love beauty may wear them, but as a mature woman, you should not wear such imitations.

2. How to distinguish pearls from shell pearls .

1. Weight : Because the density of shell beads and pearls is different, the density of shell beads is smaller than that of pearls. Compared with pearls of the same size, shell pearls are much lighter.

2. Color : The color of the pearls is electroplated, so the color of the pearls gives people a very fake and unnatural feeling, and the color will be relatively heavy and dull. The color of natural pearls will be more transparent, with metallic luster and other secondary colors.

3. Luster : The luster of shell pearls is static and will not change like real pearls. All the light emitted from it is in the form of parallel streaks, no matter from which angle you look at it. Real pearls have very natural color and are round. Its luster comes from within and looks crystal clear. If we look closely at its surface, we will find that its gloss is layered and sometimes has ring patterns.

4. Size : Because shell beads are artificially made, they are easier to shape than natural pearls. So when you look closely at a shell bead necklace, you will find that the size of each shell bead is very consistent. Because pearls are naturally formed, their shapes are difficult to control; therefore, there are no two pearls in the world that are exactly the same size. Each pearl will have slight variations in size.

5. Appearance : Shell beads are artificially made, so there are relatively few appearance flaws. However, not all natural pearls are perfect. They all have some flaws, which can be identified by careful observation. The point is that shell pearls are not wear-resistant and their surface is easily scratched. Shell pearls will peel off after wearing for a long time and lose their original luster. Natural pearls are made up of layers of nacre. If they are scratched, they can be wiped with your hands and the scratches will be gone without any trace, restoring the pearl to its original appearance.
