Causes and hazards of thick spleen

Causes and hazards of thick spleen

The normal size of a person's spleen is about the same. The spleen is a functional organ that helps the stomach and intestines to promote digestion and absorption. Once the spleen is thickened, it should be taken seriously. Spleen thickening can lead to many diseases, and severe cases may be life-threatening. There are many reasons for spleen thickening, including bacterial infections and non-bacterial infections. No matter what the cause, you must go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible and receive symptomatic treatment.

If a man's spleen is enlarged, we need to understand in advance the causes and dangers of his enlarged spleen. So, what are the causes and hazards of male spleen enlargement?

Causes of thick spleen:

1. Infectivity

(1) Acute infections occur in viral infections, rickettsial infections, bacterial infections, spirochetal infections, and parasitic infections.

(2) Chronic infection is seen in chronic viral hepatitis, chronic schistosomiasis, chronic malaria, kala-azar, etc.

2. Non-infectious

(1) Congestion is seen in cirrhosis, chronic congestive right heart failure, chronic constrictive pericarditis or large pericardial effusion, idiopathic non-cirrhotic portal hypertension, etc.

(2) Blood diseases are seen in various types of acute and chronic leukemia, erythroleukemia, erythremia, malignant lymphoma, malignant histiocytosis, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, hemolytic anemia, polycythemia vera, multiple myeloma, hypersplenism, etc.

(3) Connective tissue diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, polyarteritis nodosa, etc.

(4) Histiocytic proliferative diseases such as Lehr-Schönlein disease, xantholipomatosis syndrome, and eosinophilic granuloma.

(5) Lipid storage diseases such as Gaucher disease and Niemann-Pick disease.

(6) Splenic tumors and splenic cysts Primary malignant tumors of the spleen are rare, with splenic lymphoma being the most common. Primary cancer lesions are mostly located in the digestive tract, most commonly in the stomach and colorectum.

The dangers of thick spleen:

Splenomegaly is also a disease that must be taken seriously. It can cause great harm to the body. If the splenomegaly is not treated, it can cause purpura on the skin and may also cause infection. When splenomegaly occurs, it may also be caused by chronic heart failure. Many acute leukemias will have splenomegaly, so splenomegaly cannot be ignored, otherwise it will affect life.
