Misunderstandings in medication during cancer pain care for patients with gallbladder cancer

As gallbladder cancer progresses, the condition gradually worsens and the patient suffers more and more pain, cancer pain being one of the symptoms. Especially for patients in the advanced stage, they may even have to rely on painkillers to relieve the pain. However, there are many misunderstandings in drug treatment and more attention should be paid.

Myth 1: Improper use of morphine

Morphine injections can only be injected subcutaneously, not intravenously or intramuscularly. The latter two methods can easily enhance drug resistance, have poor efficacy, and fail to relieve pain. Injections are the fastest, usually taking effect in 10 to 30 minutes. Doctors must design the time and method of medication based on the individual patient's condition.

Myth 2: Fear of drug addiction and rejection of morphine

Some patients would rather endure tremendous pain than inject morphine, fearing that long-term and excessive use will lead to drug "addiction." In fact, this idea is not entirely correct. The most important thing for advanced patients is to improve their quality of life and alleviate discomfort. Painkillers can be used appropriately under the guidance of a doctor. As long as the medication is used reasonably, the tolerance rate of opioids such as morphine can generally be reduced to a minimum.

Myth 3: Change the medication immediately if the pain does not subside after taking the medication

Some family members and patients are anxious and eager to relieve pain immediately after taking the medicine, otherwise they will change the medicine immediately. This is wrong. All drugs have a certain absorption time. The dosage and medication time must be mastered for the first time. After morphine tolerance is formed, the dosage must be increased to achieve the effect of the first medication. Do not easily think that the drug is ineffective. At the same time, the medication must be taken strictly according to the doctor's prescription time to ensure that the blood drug concentration reaches the effective concentration.
