What is the reason for wrist bulge?

The wrist is a relatively fragile joint in the human body, and the tissues under the wrist are relatively complex with many tendons and blood vessels. Blisters on the tendons of the wrist may be a case of wrist tenosynovitis. Tenosynovitis can easily lead to wrist pain, tendon blisters, poor blood flow, numbness, etc., and requires timely treatment.

Causes

There is a fibrous thickening at the proximal end of the tendon sheath of the flexor tendon. When the tendon is strained and swollen, a relatively narrow point will be formed here, and a tendon nodule will be formed proximal to this narrow point, which will further hinder the sliding of the flexor tendon in the tendon sheath.

Causes of wrist swelling

Small lumps on the wrist are often caused by sheath cysts. They develop slowly and have no symptoms. They are more common in middle-aged and elderly women and people who do delicate work.

treat

If the cyst is ineffective with medication and frequent massage, you can consider squeezing it hard, but it may recur because it does not eliminate the root cause.

treat

1. Conservative treatment: In the early stage of the disease, simply resting the affected hand or fixing it with a local brace for 2 weeks can completely relieve the symptoms.

2. Local blockade therapy: If conservative treatment is not effective, local blockade therapy can be used. It can mostly relieve symptoms. However, some patients will have recurrence of symptoms after 3-4 weeks of treatment. Although blockade therapy can be given again, a small number of patients will experience tendon rupture after multiple blockade treatments.

3. Acupuncture knife treatment: If local blockade treatment is ineffective, acupuncture knife or a thicker syringe needle can be used for provocative treatment. The main purpose is to cut the entrance of the thickened tendon sheath. Since it is a minimally invasive operation, it may accidentally injure the flexor tendon and digital nerve, so a more experienced doctor is needed to perform the operation.

4. Surgery can be used for patients with severe or recurrent lesions. The thickened narrow ring should be removed during surgery. The extent of the removal should be determined by observing that the thickened part of the flexor tendon is not blocked by the sheath when the fingers are flexed and extended.

prevention

Pay attention to maintaining correct posture while working, avoid excessive strain on your fingers, and take regular breaks. Be careful to avoid using cold water when working and doing housework.

diagnosis

1. After long-term hand labor, the affected finger will be painful, which will be aggravated during activity. The affected finger is swollen and there is tenderness along the tendon sheath, especially in the palm line of the finger.

2. The affected finger snaps or locks, with limited movement. A tendinous nodule can be felt on the palm side of the metacarpophalangeal joint of the affected finger. The finger flexion resistance test (+) and B-ultrasound examination can confirm tendon compression.
