1. Causes

1. Contact with allergens :

a. Inhalants: such as dust, pollen, fungi, animal fur, chemical powders, etc.

b. Food: Many foods can cause allergies, such as fish, shrimp, milk, eggs, etc.; drugs such as salicylic acid, sulfonamides and antibiotics, etc.

c. Contact objects: such as paint, fur, ammonia, cosmetics, etc.

d. Injections: such as serum, penicillin, streptomycin, etc.

e. Bacteria and toxins.

2. Allergic constitution : Because allergic rhinitis often coexists or alternates with other allergic diseases such as bronchial asthma and urticaria, and most patients have a family history, it may be related to genetics.

3. External factors : such as changes in heat and cold, temperature changes, sunlight or ultraviolet stimulation, etc.

4. Internal factors : Endocrine disorders such as adrenaline deficiency, thyroid hormone, ovarian hormone and pituitary hormone secretion disorders or alkaline body fluids can all constitute the pathogenic factors of allergic rhinitis.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that allergic rhinitis is mainly related to the deficiency of the lungs, spleen, and kidneys, and is mostly caused by weak lung qi, exposure to wind and cold, and insufficient kidney qi. Common symptoms include lung deficiency and coldness, spleen deficiency and kidney deficiency

Patients should pay attention to a regular schedule and strengthen physical exercise.

2. Hazards

1. Bronchial asthma : It is the most common complication of allergic rhinitis. Nasal diseases cause the virus defense function to fail, invading the bronchi and even the abdomen.

2. Allergic sinusitis : Due to the edema of the sinus mucosa, nasal congestion and drainage are not smooth, and negative pressure gradually occurs in the sinus cavity. At this time, patients often have headaches. If accompanied by infection, allergic sinusitis may occur.

3. Secretory otitis media : The throat is affected and edema occurs, causing the pharyngeal opening to narrow and block, resulting in negative pressure in the tympanic cavity and the production of exudate in the middle ear.

4. Allergic pharyngitis : Patients may also experience itchy throat, cough, or mild hoarseness. In severe cases, edema of the epiglottis and vocal cord mucosa may occur, leading to difficulty breathing.

5. Nasal polyps : Repeated congestion and edema of the nasal mucosa leads to the formation of nasal polyps, which block the nasal cavity and cause ventilation obstruction. Surgical removal is required for complete cure.

6. Nosebleed : Itchy nose leads to excessive pinching and kneading, which causes damage to the nasal mucosa and bleeding.

7. Olfactory disorder : Nasal mucosal edema or nasal infection damages the olfactory nerve.

8. Insomnia : Long-term nasal congestion makes it more difficult for people to fall asleep, leading to poor sleep, lack of energy and lack of concentration.

9. Suffocation due to breath holding : The nasal cavity is often blocked by a large amount of fluid. When a person falls asleep, the mouth habitually closes, which can cause breath holding and even lead to suffocation in severe cases.

3. Dietary treatment for allergic rhinitis in autumn

The weather gradually gets cooler in autumn, and autumn dryness is obvious. You should pay special attention to replenishing water. You can eat more fruits such as pears, bananas, apples, grapes, and cantaloupe. And try to eat less dry foods such as fried melon seeds and fried chestnuts. In addition, you should eat more vegetables, such as carrots, winter melon, white fungus, lotus root and various bean products. You can also eat some fungus, sesame, honey, rock sugar and other foods to moisten the lungs and produce body fluids.

Allergic rhinitis is common in autumn, so it is important to take good prevention measures. First of all, you should try to reduce outdoor activities, especially during the peak time of pollen diffusion. It is best not to stay outdoors for too long and stay away from allergens. If you need to go out, wear a mask to avoid it. Secondly, if you have allergies due to seasonal changes and the inability to adapt to cooler weather, you need to maintain the humidity of the indoor air and do not let your nose be too dry. People with allergic rhinitis should strengthen the protection of their noses, strengthen daily precautions, pay attention to details in life, and reduce the chances of contact with allergens.
