How to preserve crabs if you can't finish them

Many people like to eat crabs and buy a lot of crabs at one time. They cannot finish them within a day, and they don’t know how to preserve the leftover crabs. Some people continue to keep them in water, while others refrigerate them in the refrigerator. If you want to keep the crabs taste better, you should understand the correct way to preserve crabs. You can eat the crabs that are not very flexible first, or you can preserve them in a bucket.

Bucket storage method

Prepare a deeper plastic bucket or plastic tray and put the crabs in it, making sure the crabs do not overlap. Then add water to half the height of the crab's body. Do not submerge the crab. If it is submerged, the crab may suffocate due to lack of oxygen. There is no need to cover the crabs with a lid. Check the crabs every day and eat the ones that are not in good spirits first.

Refrigerator storage method

After buying hairy crabs, do not untie the rope that binds the crabs. Put them in the refrigerator's refrigerator (note: it is a refrigerator, not a freezer) and cover the hairy crabs with a wet towel. Keep the refrigerator temperature between 5 and 10 degrees. Similarly, pick out the crabs that are not energetic enough to eat every day, so that the crabs can live for three to five days and will not become hungry and thin.

Bathtub preservation method

If you can't finish eating them within three to five days, you need to find a spacious place and keep the hairy crabs in a bathtub. Put the crab in the bathtub and add water to just cover the crab. This way, the crab's eight legs can stand up and breathe on the water surface. This way, the crab can be kept for a longer time. It is better to put some shrimps and fish as food for the crab! Eat the ones that are not in good spirits every day. (If you don’t have a bathtub at home, you can use a wash basin)

Temporary holding ponds for crab storage

If you buy more crabs than you can eat in three to five days, you cannot use the above storage method. The best way is to use your own bathtub as a temporary storage pool and let the crabs enjoy it first: because the walls of the bathtub are smooth, the crabs cannot escape. Then gently pour the crabs into the bathtub and fill it with water to just bury the crabs. If the crabs stand up their eight legs, they can breathe on the water surface. Depending on the storage time and quantity, you can add a small amount of small fish and shrimp. Crabs can generally be stored in this way for more than 7 days or longer. The survival rate of good quality crabs can reach more than 95%.
