The eyes are a very important part of the human body, and it is easy to detect when there are abnormal symptoms in the eyes. For example, some people may have symptoms such as redness, swelling, and excessive eye discharge. Generally, when these eye phenomena occur, you must pay attention to them and get them checked and treated in time. Red, itchy eyes and eye mucus are related to many factors, such as diseases. So what causes red, itchy eyes and eye mucus? 1. Inflammation Too much eye mucus is a sign of eye inflammation and should be checked and treated promptly. When the eyes are infected by bacteria, an inflammatory response will occur. On the one hand, it will stimulate the meibomian glands and promote the secretion of oil, causing the amount of oil on the eyelids and in the corners of the eyes to increase than usual. On the other hand, the blood vessels in the eyes dilate, and the white blood cells in the blood gather to kill foreign pathogens. The remains of these killed pathogens and the white blood cells that "gloriously died" in battle are mixed into the eye mucus. As a result, not only does the eye mucus increase, but some of it is yellow-white. Therefore, when you suffer from trachoma, conjunctivitis or other reasons that cause inflammation of the eyelids and conjunctiva, the eye mucus will increase. 2. Conjunctivitis Conjunctivitis is an inflammatory reaction that occurs in the conjunctiva of the eye and is generally divided into two categories: infectious and non-infectious. When the conjunctiva is exposed to various stimuli, symptoms such as edema, red eyes, and increased secretions will appear, which may affect one or both eyes. According to the condition and course of conjunctivitis, it can be divided into three categories: acute, subacute and chronic; according to the cause, it can be divided into bacterial, viral, chlamydial, fungal and allergic; according to the characteristics of conjunctival lesions, it can be divided into acute follicular conjunctivitis, chronic follicular conjunctivitis, membranous and pseudomembranous conjunctivitis, etc. 3. Note Because conjunctivitis produces a lot of secretions, if the affected eye is covered, the secretions will not be easily discharged and will accumulate in the conjunctival sac. Covering the eye will also increase the temperature of the conjunctival sac, which is more conducive to the reproduction of bacteria and aggravates conjunctivitis. If the patient is afraid of light, they can wear light-blocking glasses. |
