How to treat fever caused by kidney stones

Kidney stones may cause urinary tract infection, which can lead to fever after causing blockage and hydronephrosis. After a fever occurs, symptomatic treatment should be carried out. While physical cooling is performed, antibiotics can be used for anti-infection treatment. In daily life, not only kidney stones can cause fever, but how should we treat it after a fever occurs?

1. Physical cooling

Physical cooling is quick and safe, and is especially suitable for high fever. When doing physical cooling, you should pay attention to the following: Body temperature should be measured every 20-30 minutes, and attention should be paid to changes in breathing, pulse and skin color.

1. Cold and wet compress method:

If a high fever is unbearable, cold compresses can be used to help lower the body temperature. Place a cold wet towel on your forehead, wrists, and calves, and cover other parts of your body with clothing. When the cold compress reaches body temperature, it should be changed and repeated until the fever subsides. You can also wrap ice cubes in a cloth bag and place it on your forehead.

If the body temperature is not too high, you can use hot compress to reduce the fever. Use a hot, wet towel to repeatedly wipe the patient's forehead and limbs to dissipate heat from the body until the fever subsides. However, if the body temperature rises above 39°C, do not use hot compresses to reduce the fever. Instead, use cold compresses to prevent the body temperature from continuing to rise.

2. Alcohol bath: evaporation also has a cooling effect. Experts recommend using cool running water to help dissipate excess heat from the skin. Although you can sponge your entire body, pay special attention to areas where your body temperature rises, such as your armpits and groin. After squeezing out excess water from the sponge, wipe one area at a time, keeping the rest covered with clothing. Your body heat will evaporate this water, helping to dissipate the heat.

3. Wipe your body

4. Warm bath: Sometimes, a warm bath is the most comfortable thing. It can also help relieve fever symptoms. Babies should be bathed in warm water or wrapped in a wet towel, which should be changed every 15 minutes.

2. Drugs to reduce fever

It is advisable to use acetaminophen, ibuprofen, compound aspirin, etc. which have mild fever-reducing effects. The dosage should be small to avoid excessive sweating and a sudden drop in body temperature that may cause collapse. Small doses should be used, especially for the elderly and infirm, young children, and patients with fever above 40°C. Infants with high fever are prone to convulsions. You can inject 1 to 3 drops of 15% to 30% analgin solution into the nose.

When cooling is needed, the only effective cooling measure that conforms to the physiological mechanism of heat regulation is to use drugs to lower the hypothalamic temperature set point to reduce the temperature. Generally, when the rectal temperature is above 39°C, non-steroidal antipyretic drugs such as paracetamol, aspirin, ibuprofen, etc. can be used, which usually have a good antipyretic effect. Physical cooling can only be used as an auxiliary measure to reduce fever in an emergency situation when the body temperature is higher than 41°C and needs to be lowered quickly.
