What is Benzopyrene Epoxide?

Cancer is a very serious disease. Many factors in life may cause cancer, and factors closely related to cancer also include carcinogens. Many people have never heard of benzopyrene epoxide, but in clinical medicine, if too much benzopyrene epoxide is inhaled, it will have a great impact on human health and may even cause cancer. So what exactly is benzopyrene epoxide?

1.Benzopyrene epoxide

Benzopyrene epoxide is a common, highly active indirect carcinogen and mutagen. If inhaled or ingested, it can lead to the risk of lung cancer and cardiovascular disease. Therefore, good lung protection and a proper diet can have a preventive effect. At the same time, regular medical examinations and health care will have a better preventive health care effect.

2. Benzopyrene is a recognized strong carcinogen

In 1933, British scientists extracted pure benzopyrene from asphalt for the first time and induced skin cancer in mice in animal experiments, making benzopyrene the first confirmed chemical carcinogen. The International Agency for Research on Cancer once listed 94 compounds that are carcinogenic to experimental animals, 15 of which are polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Since benzopyrene is widely distributed and has the strongest carcinogenicity, people often use benzopyrene as a marker for PAH environmental pollution.

3. Origin

Benzopyrene in the environment comes from waste gases generated by the combustion of coal, oil, natural gas, etc. in industrial production processes and daily life, including exhaust gas emitted by motor vehicles, rubber production, and tobacco smoke. Benzopyrene can enter foods such as vegetables, fruits, grains, aquatic products, and meat through pollution of water sources, atmosphere, and soil. In smoked, baked and fried foods, fats, cholesterol, proteins and carbohydrates will undergo thermal cracking reactions under high temperature conditions, and then undergo cyclization and polymerization reactions to form polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons including benzopyrene.
