Do plain glasses hurt your eyes?

In daily life, many people have the experience of wearing plain glasses, but some people are worried that it will cause some adverse effects on their eyes. In fact, inferior plain glasses can indeed hurt our eyes. If you want to wear plain glasses, you should also pay attention to standard fitting, and there is no need to wear plain glasses unless there is any need.

1. Wearing plain glasses should also be matched with standard glasses

Tang Ping, technical director of the Optometry and Opticianry Center of Beijing Tongren Hospital, told reporters that some people who are not nearsighted and love beauty buy beautiful glasses frames but wear them directly without replacing the lenses, which is harmful to the eyes. The plastic sheet in the sample glasses is to protect the shape of the frame, but the plastic sheet is not an optical lens, has low optical performance and low light transmittance, and will have an adverse effect on vision. Whether children, adults or people, plastic sheets can easily increase their visual fatigue and affect their eyesight.

Second, low-quality plain glasses have degrees

Tang Ping introduced that theoretically, the lenses of plano glasses should have no degree in all directions, but some poor quality lenses may have a small amount of degree in the periphery even though the center is plano. Zhang Huaxiang, assistant manager of Tongren Optometry and Optical Center, believes that whether these degrees are harmful depends on whether they are within a reasonable error range. According to international practice and national standards, if the allowable deviation of the top focal length of plain glasses is within plus or minus 12 degrees, it is within a reasonable error range and generally will not cause visual deviation to the wearer. The more it deviates from the standard value, the greater the damage to the wearer. For example, the sunglasses bought on the market are supposed to be plain glasses, but some low-quality products have degrees. After consumers wear such glasses for a period of time, they will experience dizziness, sore eyes, tearing and pain, etc. Wearing them for a long time will cause vision loss.

3. There is no national standard for anti-electromagnetic radiation lenses

The reporter learned at Beijing Panjiayuan Optical Market that many optical shops sell plain glasses with selling points such as protection against UV rays, radiation, and wind and sand to attract non-myopic consumers. Some consumers also buy plain glasses to wear when watching computers to protect against radiation. Tang Ping believes that lenses with a 100% UV protection coating can indeed block some electromagnetic radiation. But so far, the country has no standards to determine what kind of lenses can completely block electromagnetic radiation, and UV protection can only be tested under the sun or UV instruments through special test cards, which is difficult to identify with the naked eye.

4. Gray, green and brown lenses are good

Tang Ping said that the best lens colors are gray, green and brown. If the lens color is too dark, it is best not to wear it indoors, because wearing lenses that are too dark, especially at dusk and when watching movies or TV, will increase the burden of eye adjustment, causing eye muscle tension and fatigue. In severe cases, symptoms such as dizziness, inability to see for a long time, etc.
