Will abrasions leave scars?

It is easy for us to get our skin scratched in our daily lives, and scars are likely to remain after the skin abrasions heal. Remember not to dig with your hands. Do not wash directly with water, do not touch the injured area deliberately, the scabs left by the abrasions will fall off naturally, and be careful not to eat soy sauce. Otherwise, scars will be left, which will affect the appearance and will be difficult to remove. Let’s analyze whether abrasions will leave scars.

1. How to prevent scars from leaving on wounds

Skin damage is inevitable in daily life. Whenever this happens, people, especially women who love beauty, always take care of the wound carefully for fear of leaving scars and pigmentation. So how do we protect wounds?

First of all, you should go to the hospital in time to have the doctor clean, disinfect, suture or bandage the wound. People often worry that cleaning the wound will waste time, cause more bleeding or make the wound bigger, or even refuse to clean it simply because they are afraid of pain. In fact, cleaning the wound carefully is the most basic step to avoid scars and promote wound healing. For example, if dust, coal ash or other debris is embedded in the skin after an injury, if it is not cleaned properly, the colored particles will remain in the skin and form unsightly dust stains. Disinfection is to prevent infection, which is also the key to avoiding local scars. Because infection can cause damage to the lower layer of the dermis and the epidermis cannot regenerate, the defects have to be filled by the proliferation of granulation tissue, which will inevitably leave scars. Similarly, boils, pustules, etc. should be treated scientifically by a doctor as soon as possible, and should never be squeezed with your hands to prevent the inflammation from spreading deeper. In addition, after a burn, you should immediately rinse with plenty of clean cold water to reduce high temperature damage to deep tissues; do not use iodine to disinfect facial wounds, otherwise it will cause pigmentation.

After the wound has scabbed over, wait patiently for it to fall off on its own. People often dislike the unsightly black scabs, or out of curiosity, they can't help but forcibly peel off the scabs too early. At this time, the epidermal cells that are still being repaired have not yet fully grown, and without the protection of the hard scab, it is easy to form scars and pigmentation. Sometimes the newly grown epidermal cells may be accidentally removed, which may stimulate local inflammatory response and hinder wound healing. In addition, an itchy feeling will occur when the wound is healing. Using scratching, hot water washing, friction with clothes and other methods to relieve the itching will stimulate the dilation of local capillaries and the proliferation of granulation tissue to form scars. In terms of diet, irritating foods such as alcohol, peppers, mutton, raw garlic, ginger, mustard, coffee, etc. will also promote the growth of scars. If you take medicines containing lead or mercury, it will promote pigmentation; sun protection should not be ignored. Especially in midsummer, the sun is hot and abundant, and the new skin is tender and can hardly resist the radiation of ultraviolet rays in the sun, so it is easy to form pigmentation; cosmetics, soap, etc. should not come into contact with wounds. Because various cosmetics inevitably contain heavy metals such as lead, mercury, silver, and photosensitive substances, they will stimulate the increase of skin pigmentation.

It can be seen that as long as you treat the wound scientifically and seriously, you can definitely limit the scars and pigmentation to the lightest level.

2. Prevention of keloids

Keloids and excessive scar proliferation are important complications of trauma and external injury. There are many reasons for scars, such as burns, trauma, acne, ear piercing, and vaccinations, all of which can cause varying degrees of scar proliferation and keloids. Its preventive measures are mainly focused on the stage before scar formation and during the immature stage. The main purpose is to remove various factors that cause scar hyperplasia as much as possible, reduce the growth of scars, and prevent various deformities and functional disorders caused by scars to the body. In severe cases, care should be taken to minimize mechanical, chemical, and thermal stimulation to the affected area, and avoid repeated traction, friction, ulceration, and infection. Usually, you should pay attention to prevent trauma, burns, ear piercing, eyebrow tattooing, etc. to avoid damaging the dermis, especially in areas with poor immune function, such as the chest, shoulders and back. Regularly eat alkaline foods such as kelp, etc. Because long-term consumption of these foods can improve scar-prone constitution.

3. Current treatment methods for keloids

Although keloids are relatively common, their cause is still unknown, which makes treatment very difficult. How to inhibit the crazy proliferation of fibroblasts and prevent their recurrence and continued growth has become a difficult problem in today's medical field. Current treatment methods include: surgical resection, grinding, laser, radiation, local sealing, freezing, etc. Single treatment often fails to achieve satisfactory results and can easily make the affected area worse. For example, surgical resection has a high recurrence rate, and laser blocking is often extremely painful and can cause a variety of complications, including menstrual disorders in women and impotence and obesity in men. Skin abrasion, laser, freezing, etc. cannot prevent recurrence, which makes many patients and doctors feel very difficult. Many doctors even answer their patients: "Keloids are more difficult to treat than cancer." In fact, this view is quite one-sided.
