Great saphenous vein valve function test

Great saphenous vein valve function test

When it comes to the great saphenous vein valve function test, many people do not understand it, but it has extremely important significance in clinical medicine. It can be used to check whether the veins are normal. The normal value is negative, but it is not suitable for people with arteriovenous fistulas. In addition, you need to ensure adequate sleep and a normal diet before the examination to make the test results most accurate. Friends in need can learn more about the relevant knowledge.

1. Basic Information

The great saphenous vein valve function test is an auxiliary examination method used to check whether the venous blood vessels are normal. The principle is that normally functioning venous valves can prevent blood from flowing back. If the venous valves are incompetent, when you stand up after emptying the veins, the blood will flow back due to the effect of gravity, and the veins will fill up quickly. Used to check the function of the great saphenous vein valve and the loss of great saphenous vein valve function in patients with simple varicose veins of the lower limbs. Data on perforator valve function can also be provided. This examination can be used to determine the corresponding symptoms.

2. Normal value

Negative: The superficial veins fill slowly after pressure is released, not in a top-down order. That is, let the patient stand and release the tourniquet within 10 seconds. If the superficial vein gradually fills up over 30 seconds, it is normal.

3. Clinical significance

Abnormal result: Positive: After releasing the pressure, blood in the superficial veins can be seen to flow back rapidly from top to bottom, and the veins become filled from top to bottom. A positive result indicates great saphenous vein valvular insufficiency. Helps in choosing surgical approach. If the blood suddenly stops flowing back rapidly, it indicates that the venous valve at that location is functioning well. People who need to be examined: those who plan to undergo surgical treatment for varicose veins of the great saphenous vein.

IV. Precautions

Unsuitable population: Arteriovenous fistula. Taboos before examination: Maintain normal diet and sleep. Requirements during the examination: When tying a tourniquet or pressing with fingers, apply moderate pressure to block only the great saphenous vein without obstructing blood flow in the deep veins and arteries.

5. Inspection process

(1) The patient lies supine with the lower limbs exposed. Elevate the affected limb to completely empty the superficial venous blood return. (2) Place a tourniquet under the groin or press the oval fossa with the thumb. The pressure should be sufficient to block the great saphenous vein return without obstructing the deep venous return. (3) Ask the patient to stand up. After the patient has stood firmly, remove the tourniquet or release the pressing fingers and observe the blood flow and filling of the superficial veins.

6. Related diseases

Lower extremity communicating vein valve insufficiency, primary lower extremity deep vein valve insufficiency, primary lower extremity venous valve insufficiency, simple lower extremity varicose veins

7. Related symptoms

Superficial varicose veins of the lower limbs, venous thrombosis, local venous tenderness, varicose veins.
