The difference between a long face and an oval face

Long face and oval face are both common face shapes in life, but don’t confuse these two face shapes. Simply put, an oval face has the golden ratio, so it looks perfect. Outsiders will also feel that this face shape is more natural and comfortable, while a long face will obviously feel too long vertically.

The aesthetic principle of oval face

We know that any structure that conforms to the golden ratio will give the observer a visually pleasing impression. The length-to-width ratio of an ideal oval face is 34:21, which fits the golden ratio exactly. The face of the famous sculpture "Venus of Cnidus" by Praxiteles is recognized as a model of charm, and the ratio of the length from hairline to jaw to the width between ears is also close to the golden ratio.

The traditional Chinese aesthetic attaches great importance to the beauty of human face. There is a saying in ancient Chinese painting theory that "three stops and five eyes", which refers to the vertical and horizontal proportional relationship of the human face when viewed from the front. "Three stops" means dividing the front of the face horizontally into three equal parts, namely, from the hairline to the eyebrow line is one stop, from the eyebrow line to the base of the nose is one stop, and below the base of the nose is one stop. "Five eyes" means dividing the front of the face into five equal parts vertically, with one eye length as one part. That is, the distance between the two eyes is the distance of one eye, and the distance from the vertical line from the outer corner of the eye to the vertical line from the outer ear hole is the distance of one eye. The entire front of the face is divided vertically into five eye distances. Any character's face drawn according to the proportions of "three stops and five eyes" is harmonious. The ideal oval face fits this proportion perfectly.

For a beautiful face shape, draw vertical lines from the midline of the face to the left and right through the outer edge of the iris and the outer edge of the face, dividing it vertically into four equal parts. Generally speaking, an oval face also conforms to this proportion.

Harmony is the highest form of the three elements of facial beauty. Vertical harmony is one of the regular manifestations of facial structure. Some people believe that the height of the lower 1/3 and the middle 1/3 of a normal person's face should be roughly equal. Some people believe that the middle and lower parts of a normal person's face are generally coordinated, but not necessarily equal, and the height of the lower 1/3 of the face should only be close to the height of the middle 1/3 of the face. Because the nasion point is a bony landmark and its surface is unclear, it is recommended to use the distance from the outer canthus to the corner of the mouth instead. In any case, the lower 1/3 of the face must be high enough to make the expression natural; this is one of the foundations of beautiful appearance. If the height of the lower 1/3 of the face is significantly smaller than the middle 1/3 of the face, it will create the impression of a short face. On the contrary, it will give people a sense of long face deformity.

On the other hand, facial harmony in beautiful people is also reflected in the coordination of width. The mid-face width (the distance between the two condyles) is approximately equal to 1.3 times the subfacial width (the distance between the bilateral mandibular angles). If the lower width of the surface is equal to or greater than the middle width of the surface, the width is not adjusted. When viewed from the front, the mandibular angle is often excessively abducted, and the masseter muscles are enlarged, bulging and protruding; when viewed from the side, the mandibular angle is often smaller than the usual 123°, or even almost a right angle, giving a sense of obliqueness. Although this can be considered masculine for men, it completely deprives women of their gentleness and grace.

The oval face is widely loved by people because it meets the above-mentioned characteristics of natural beauty.

Oval face features

1. The lines are smooth and the overall contour is even.

2. The forehead is of moderate width and balanced with the lower part.

3. The middle part of the cheekbone is the widest, and the chin is arc-shaped. Modification focus: The oval face, also known as the oval face, is the most standard face shape.

The difference between an oval face and a long face is that the oval face has an eye that is one-fifth the width of the cheek horizontally, and the forehead, nose, and chin are also equal vertically.
