Conservative treatment: Mild cases can be treated with medication. Commonly used nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, opioid analgesics, etc.

Cause treatment: For temporomandibular joint disorder syndrome caused by occlusal relationship, the oral orthodontist will prescribe bite pads and perform orthodontic treatment to adjust the occlusal relationship.

Intra-articular injection: can relieve joint pain, lubricate joints, and promote the reconstruction of joint structure. The drugs generally injected are large molecular mucopolysaccharides such as hyaluronic acid or chitosan, and the use of hormones is now prohibited. A course of treatment consists of three consecutive injections. The interval between each injection is 14 days, and no more than 3 times a year.

Physical therapy: hot compress, ultrashort wave, ion introduction, electrical stimulation and magnetic therapy have certain therapeutic effects.

Surgical treatment: For patients with severe and recurrent temporomandibular joint disorder syndrome, surgical treatment can be used to adjust the maxillofacial relationship.

1. X-ray film

X-rays of the joint in the Schirmer position and the transpharyngeal lateral condyle position can reveal changes in the joint space and bone quality, such as sclerosis, bone destruction and hyperplasia, cystic changes, etc. By comparing the position of the condyle in the open and closed states, the movement state of the joint can be understood.

2. Arthrography

Superior cavity radiography is widely used due to its easy operation, while inferior cavity radiography is less used in China. Radiography can detect articular disc displacement, perforation, changes in articular disc attachments, and changes in the cartilage surface. In recent years, many scholars have used arthroendoscopy to detect early changes of the disease, such as congestion, oozing of blood, adhesion of the articular disc and synovium, and "joint mice" formed by undifferentiated cartilage-like tissue.

3. Cone beam CT (CBCT)

CBCT has a high resolution and can detect subtle structural changes in joint hard tissues, which is very meaningful for the diagnosis of joint diseases.

4. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

High-resolution MRI images can be used to determine the condition of soft tissues such as the articular disc and muscles, providing important information for the diagnosis of temporomandibular joint disorders.
