How to deal with a sudden nosebleed in one nostril

When it is a slow change of seasons, or due to some external reasons, nosebleeds will occur. In general, nosebleeds are sudden nosebleeds in one nostril. Don't be nervous about sudden nosebleeds. As long as you take the correct method, you can stop the nosebleed quickly. There are many ways to stop nosebleeds, and as long as you remember one method, it will be very effective.

How to deal with a nose bleed

1. Use your fingers to apply pressure to stop the bleeding. More than 90% of nosebleeds occur in the front and lower part of the nasal cavity. You can pinch the nostrils on both sides (the cartilage of the nostrils) with your thumb and index finger, breathe through your mouth, and the bleeding will stop after a few minutes. This method is simple and effective, and is most suitable for those with small amounts of bleeding.

2. Keep calm, because the amount of nosebleed is closely related to emotions. The more nervous you are, the more blood will flow.

3. If nose bleeding does not stop after self-care, or if there is a large amount of bleeding and you become pale, have a rapid and weak pulse, or experience other physical discomfort, you should go to the hospital for treatment immediately.

4. Sit down and slightly raise your forehead, then apply a warm or cold towel or ice to the forehead above the nose. Be careful not to tilt your head back too much to prevent blood from flowing into the throat and causing other symptoms.

5. After the bleeding stops, do not blow your nose violently or do strenuous exercise or sneeze within a short period of time to prevent further bleeding.

Why is there a sudden nosebleed in one nostril?

Generally speaking, unilateral nose bleeding is mostly caused by local reasons of the nose, while bilateral nose bleeding is mostly caused by systemic diseases. Bleeding from the front part of the nose is more common in children and young people, and is often caused by trauma, rhinitis and vitamin deficiency. Bleeding from the back part of the nose is more common in adults or elderly patients, and is mostly caused by diseases such as hypertension and arteriosclerosis. In addition, climate change, emotional excitement, fatigue, sneezing, and even blowing your nose can all be triggers of nosebleeds.

Local causes

1. Primary: Clinically, many patients cannot find a clear cause of nose bleeding, which is more common in children or adolescents. The bleeding site is mostly in the Lee area of the nasal septum and is easy to stop on its own.

2. Traumatic: Damage to the nasal mucosa when picking the nose is a common cause of nosebleeds.

3. Nasal septum deviation and perforation.

4. Nasal inflammation: such as acute rhinitis, sinusitis, atrophic rhinitis, etc.

5. Tumor: Benign or malignant tumors in the nasal cavity, sinuses or nasopharynx can cause nosebleeds.

6. Environmental factors: dry air and low air pressure can easily cause nose bleeding. Dry air in air-conditioned rooms can also cause nose bleeding.

Systemic causes

1. Hypertension and arteriosclerosis.

2. Increased venous pressure.

3. Systemic hemorrhagic diseases: such as coagulation mechanism disorders, platelet abnormalities or capillary lesions.
