What are some tips to prevent your eyelids from twitching?

The eyes are the part of the body that best expresses people's charm, because the eyes are lively and can fully express people's emotions, joy, anger, sorrow, happiness, etc. However, the eyes are also prone to some abnormal symptoms, which can affect people's image or health. Among them, eyelid twitching is a common phenomenon. Frequent twitching can affect people's work and life. Let's take a look at some tips to prevent eyelid twitching.

Eyelid twitching is a typical symptom of frontal blepharospasm. Usually, patients with blepharospasm have normal eyes, and any disturbance in their vision is caused by the forced eyelid closure. Don't confuse benign blepharospasm with ptosis, a drooping eyelid caused by weakness or paralysis of the nerves that control the upper eyelid muscles. Mild blepharospasm usually does not get worse.

For most people, blepharospasm is merely uncomfortable, involuntary spasms of the muscles around the eye that go away after a while. The cramps usually occur several times and come back again. Spasm that causes one side of the face to twitch is called hemifacial spasm.

They can usually be attributed to some kind of irritation of the facial nerve. If you experience these spasms, you should see your doctor, who will refer you to a neurologist or ophthalmologist to find the cause and decide on the right treatment.

Treatment:

First of all, you should go to the neurology department of a regular hospital. The doctor will conduct necessary examinations to confirm the diagnosis and then provide appropriate treatment. Commonly used symptomatic treatments include oral medications, microvascular decompression of the facial nerve root, and botulinum toxin injections into the spastic muscle.

Currently, botulinum toxin type A is the only evidence-based treatment for blepharospasm. About 76% to 100% of patients experience significant or complete relief of symptoms after injection treatment, with the average therapeutic effect lasting 3-6 months, and some patients experience longer duration of efficacy. Long-term regular repeated injection treatment can maintain the therapeutic effect. Botulinum toxin is a highly toxic neurotoxin. Formal medical institutions have a series of corresponding standards and procedures, and trained qualified doctors are required to use it to maximize its efficacy and avoid adverse side effects. Patients should choose regular medical institutions and qualified doctors for diagnosis and treatment.
