Reaction of sodium aluminate and hydrochloric acid

Reaction of sodium aluminate and hydrochloric acid

Sodium aluminate is a widely used sodium compound. Its industrial products can be applied to various industries. For example, it can be used as a water purifier, and mixed with aluminum sulfate it can be used as a filler in the papermaking industry. It also has a wide range of uses in pharmaceuticals and petrochemicals. Hydrochloric acid is a chemical reagent commonly used in life and industry. It has a wide range of uses and is often used in combination with other chemical reagents in industrial production.

Sodium aluminate is white granules, hygroscopic, highly soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol, and its aqueous solution is strongly alkaline. Hydrochloric acid is an aqueous solution of hydrogen chloride. It is a monobasic inorganic strong acid with a wide range of industrial uses. Hydrochloric acid is a colorless, transparent liquid with a strong pungent odor and is highly corrosive.

Hydrochloric acid is a colorless liquid (industrial hydrochloric acid may appear slightly yellow due to the presence of trivalent iron salt as an impurity). It is an aqueous solution of hydrogen chloride and has a pungent odor. The hydrochloric acid generally used in laboratories is 0.1 mol/L and has a pH of 1. Since concentrated hydrochloric acid is volatile, the volatilized hydrogen chloride gas reacts with water vapor in the air to form small hydrochloric acid droplets, so white mist is seen. Hydrochloric acid is miscible with water and ethanol. Concentrated hydrochloric acid releases heat when diluted. Hydrogen chloride can dissolve in benzene.

Hydrochloric acid is a component of gastric juice (concentration is about 0.5%), which can keep the gastric juice at the most suitable pH value required to activate pepsin. It can also denature the protein in table salt and facilitate hydrolysis, as well as kill bacteria that enter the stomach with food. In addition, after hydrochloric acid enters the small intestine, it can promote the secretion of pancreatic juice, intestinal juice, and the secretion and excretion of bile. The acidic environment also helps the absorption of iron and calcium in the small intestine.

In analytical chemistry, when acid is used to determine the concentration of alkali, hydrochloric acid is generally used for titration. Titration with a strong acid can make the endpoint more distinct, thus obtaining a more accurate result. At 1 standard atmospheric pressure, 20.2% hydrochloric acid can form a constant boiling solution, which is often used as a reference substance in quantitative analysis under a certain atmospheric pressure. Its concentration at constant boiling point will change with changes in gas pressure.

Sodium aluminate is mainly used in: In civil engineering, this product is mixed with water glass for plugging leaks during construction. In the papermaking industry, this product is a good filler when mixed with aluminum sulfate. In water treatment, it can be used as a water purification agent additive. It can be used as cement accelerating agent. It is also widely used in petrochemical, pharmaceutical, rubber, printing and dyeing, textile, and catalyst production. This product is used in the production process of titanium dioxide to coat its surface and improve its properties. Used as a mordant for textiles, a filler for paper, a water purifier, etc. It can be prepared by melting aluminum oxide with solid sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate. Manufacture of zeolite, opal glass and soap.

Sodium aluminate reacts with concentrated hydrochloric acid. The reaction first generates a white precipitate, which then disappears. The reaction equation is as follows:

NaAlO2+HCl+H2O=Al(OH)3↓+NaCl

Al(OH)3+3HCl=AlCl3+3H2O

The ionic formula is: AlO2-+H++H2O=Al(OH)3↓

Al(OH)3+3H+==Al3++3H2O
