Is the peanut oil you squeeze yourself healthy?

Is the peanut oil you squeeze yourself healthy?

Peanut oil made from peanuts is actually okay, because the raw material of peanut oil is made from peanuts. If you have the equipment to make it yourself, it is actually advisable to make peanut oil by yourself. The peanut oil made in this way is also very healthy, without any additives, and the taste is very fragrant when used to cook dishes.

Is homemade peanut oil good?

Peanut oil is our most common edible oil, and many families also try to squeeze their own peanut oil. We all know that although self-pressed peanut oil is more troublesome, the main thing is that the oil you press yourself is reliable. The raw materials are selected by yourself, and you know the process yourself. No additives are added. It is better to choose self-pressed peanut oil.

One thing to note when making homemade peanut oil is that the peanuts you choose must not be moldy, because moldy peanuts contain aflatoxin, a carcinogen. It is also best to choose peanuts with fuller grains. Also, the freshly squeezed oil may not be as clear as the oil bought from the supermarket. It needs to sit for a while so that the final squeezed oil will look better.

How to filter self-pressed peanut oil

Home-pressed peanut oil is relatively safe and healthy, but one of the more difficult problems to solve with home-pressed peanut oil is the filtration problem.

Some people may use gauze to filter, but if the peanut oil is cold, it is difficult to solve the problem of small residues by this method. Another option is to keep heating the peanut oil, which makes it easier to filter, but this takes a long time and the results may not be ideal. In fact, it is best to filter self-pressed peanut oil through a machine. Families with the conditions can choose a small oil press, which has a small vacuum pump and a plate and frame filter. The peanut oil filtered by the machine can be left to stand for about ten days, and the oil that comes out will be clearer and cleaner.

How to store self-pressed peanut oil

The production process of self-pressed peanut oil does not undergo as rigorous processing as branded oil. Moreover, because it is more natural and purer than branded oil, its preservation requires more attention.

Generally speaking, self-pressed peanut oil should be stored in a cool, dark, dry and low-temperature place. Because self-pressed peanut oil does not contain any preservatives, it should be consumed as soon as possible after opening. It must be stored in a sealed container to prevent the peanut oil from becoming rancid due to excessive and long-term contact with air. At the same time, the oil we pour out for use should preferably be stored in stainless steel or thick plastic bottles. Do not use mineral water bottles. Reasonable selection of peanut oil storage containers can also preserve self-pressed peanut oil for a longer time.

Shelf life of peanut oil

We know that the shelf life of branded oil purchased from supermarkets is generally one and a half years, but what is the shelf life of our self-pressed peanut oil? Generally speaking, fresh hot-rolled peanut oil, which has also undergone a certain amount of sedimentation and filtration treatment and is stored in a cool, dark place, can be kept for about 24 months.

However, the storage of self-pressed peanut oil is related to the moisture and gum in the oil as well as the storage conditions. It is difficult to control these conditions, so once we open the peanut oil we squeeze ourselves, we must pay attention to the color and smell of the oil. Once we find color change, odor or other changes, we'd better not consume it.
