Difference between walnut and black walnut

Walnut is a superior material with excellent texture and feel. Walnut itself is hard and extremely wear-resistant, so it has many uses. Black walnut is a type of walnut, but it is more precious and scarce than ordinary walnut. Black walnut has a more noble color and is generally used for the decoration of high-end clubs.

Walnut:

The sapwood of walnut is creamy white, and the heartwood ranges from light brown to dark chocolate, with occasional purple and darker streaks. The boards can be supplied with darker sapwood after steam treatment or without steam treatment. The grain is generally straight, but sometimes has wavy or curly grains, forming pleasing decorative patterns. Deciduous or semi-evergreen trees or small trees, resinous, aromatic, covered with orange-yellow shield-shaped rounded glands. The buds are naked or with bud scales, often 2-3 overlapping ones growing in the leaf axils. Leaves are alternate or rarely opposite, without stipules, odd- or rarely even-pinnate; leaflets are opposite or alternate, with or without petioles, pinnately veined, margin serrate or rarely entire. Flowers are unisexual, monoecious, and wind-pollinated.

Dark Walnut:

Black walnut is very expensive, and veneer is usually used to make furniture, and solid wood is rarely used. The planed veneer is often used in wooden parts of construction projects and high-end classroom furniture. Because it is a dark-colored wood species and has good elasticity, it is also very suitable for the surface of tables and chairs. Traditional veneer can be used for piano surfaces and interior decoration of mid- to high-end cars. Among them, the very precious California black walnut burl veneer is used for interior decoration of higher-end Mercedes-Benz, BMW cars or decoration of high-end clubs.

Black walnut is resistant to impact and friction, resistant to decay, easy to dry and less deformed; easy to construct and easy to glue. The shrinkage rate is very small, which makes it suitable for use in changing climate environments without problems such as cracking. No other wood will absorb oil paint as well as black walnut. These unique features make black walnut wood very valuable. It is understood that the market price of black walnut wood is about 20,000 yuan per cubic meter. Therefore, pure solid wood furniture made of black walnut wood is naturally much more expensive than other ordinary furniture.
