Uses of aluminum sulfate

Uses of aluminum sulfate

I believe most people are familiar with aluminum sulfate, because the paper used in daily life is made of aluminum sulfate. Not only that, aluminum sulfate will form a colloid when it comes into contact with water, which can absorb bacteria, debris or other things in the water. Therefore, aluminum sulfate is often used as a flocculant for purification of pure drinking water and industrial wastewater in life. Aluminum sulfate is everywhere in our lives. The editor introduces the role of aluminum sulfate in detail.

1. In the papermaking industry, it is used as a precipitant for rosin glue, wax emulsion and other sizing materials, as a flocculant in water treatment, and as an internal retention agent for foam fire extinguishers. It is also a raw material for making alum and aluminum white, a petroleum decolorizer, a deodorant, and a raw material for certain medicines. It can also be used to make artificial gemstones and high-grade ammonium alum.

3. Used as turbid water purifier, also used as precipitant, color fixative, filler, etc. In cosmetics, it is used as an antiperspirant cosmetic raw material (astringent);

4. After dissolving in water, it can make the fine particles and natural colloid particles in the water condense into large flocs, thereby removing them from the water. Therefore, it is used as a coagulant for water supply and wastewater;

5. In the fire-fighting industry, it is used with baking soda and foaming agent to form a foam fire extinguishing agent;

6. Analytical reagents, mordants, tanning agents, oil decolorizing agents, wood preservatives;

7. Albumin pasteurization stabilizers (including liquid or frozen whole eggs, egg whites or egg yolks);

8. It can be used as raw material to make artificial gemstones, high-grade ammonium alum and other aluminates;

9. In the fuel industry, it is used as a precipitant in the production of chrome yellow and lake dyes, and also acts as a color fixer and filler.

It is used as an effective cross-linking agent for animal glue and can increase the viscosity of animal glue. It is also used as a curing agent for urea-formaldehyde adhesives, and its 20% aqueous solution cures quickly.

10. Manufacture of other aluminum salts, such as ammonium aluminum sulfate, also known as ammonium alum, with the molecular formula ALNH4(SO4)2.12H2O, colorless glassy octahedral crystals to white granules or powder, odorless with a slightly sweet taste, and strong astringency. It is used as a precipitant, flocculant, retention agent in foam fire extinguishers, petroleum decolorizing agent, deodorizing agent, etc. It is also used as a raw material for making industrial aluminum sulfate alum and aluminum white.
