Why do snakes have legs?

Why do snakes have legs?

It is said to be a cold-blooded animal that we often hear about in our daily lives. The whole body is covered with scales and has no legs. From ancient times to the present, there are countless legends about snakes. Therefore, stories about snakes are shrouded in mystery. Some people are born with a natural fear of snakes. This makes snakes even more mysterious. The snakes we usually see usually have no feet. This is because some people have actually seen snakes with long legs. Why do snakes have legs? Is it really that mysterious?

1. Snake is a general term for reptiles with degenerate limbs, belonging to the Squamata order of the class Reptilia and the suborder Serpentes. Like all reptiles, snakes are covered with scales. All snakes are carnivorous. There are more than 3,000 species of snakes in the world.

2. The snake has an elongated body, degenerate limbs, no movable eyelids, no ear holes, no limbs, no forelimb ligaments, and the body surface is covered with scales. Some are poisonous, but most are not. In addition, there is also the zodiac sign "snake" in the "Twelve Chinese Zodiac Signs".

Snakes have only degenerated limbs; their ancestors had feet, so it is normal for them to have atavism. Some people growing thick hair all over their bodies is also a manifestation of atavism.

3. The ancestors of snakes are quadrupedal reptiles. In fact, snakes originally had four legs, but with the evolution of snakes, their legs gradually degenerated and evolved into their current "legless" appearance. This is one of the very rare atavism phenomena.

In fact, the earliest snakes on Earth had feet, but later in the process of evolution, the feet gradually degenerated and disappeared. Therefore, almost all the snakes we see today have legs. On both sides of the anus of pythons and other snakes, there are still traces of a pair of stick-shaped hind limbs, which fully proves that snakes originally had feet.

4. Snakes are now listed as protected animals. This is good news for snakes, whether they are poisonous or not, they now have a life-saving amulet. When most of us talk about snakes, we think of their viciousness and feel an inexplicable sense of fear.

5. In fact, the snake itself has many positive symbols. The first positive symbol is luck, auspiciousness and holiness; the second symbolic meaning is the pursuit of love and happiness; the third symbolic meaning is longevity, reproduction and wealth.

This is probably related to the fact that snakes are so-called "cold-blooded animals", so coldness is also considered to be a characteristic of snakes. In addition, snakes have no vocal cords and cannot make any sound, which further deepens their gloomy impression.

Women who are beautiful in appearance but sinister and vicious in heart are called "beautiful snakes". The image of beautiful snakes often appears in some literary works about detection and espionage. People divide snakes into domestic snakes and wild snakes. In some places, it is believed that having a domestic snake at home is a good omen.

The image of two snakes is carved on the cane to represent the power of the envoy. It is a scepter used exclusively by envoys in international exchanges. The snake has become a symbol of the country and authority. In Chinese culture, snakes and turtles are symbols of longevity.

There is a force in the human body that is coiled like a snake, called "snake power". As long as you practice it properly, you can release this force. Snakes are also a symbol of wealth. Snakes have their own underground kingdom, which contains countless treasures. Therefore, those who want to get rich must go to the snake temple to pray devoutly.

People often refer to snakes as "little dragons" to show respect. The skin shed by a snake is called snake molt, also known as "dragon clothes"; in folk customs, the third day of the third lunar month is the day when snakes end their hibernation and come out of their holes, also known as "the dragon raises its head." These are all comparing snakes to dragons. In fact, the dragon was created by people's imagination based on the snake.

Many people often dream of snakes. In Zhou Gong's dream interpretation, dreaming of snakes is mostly a good omen, but there are also some exceptions.
