How to restore shrunk cotton clothes

When we wash clothes, we often encounter the phenomenon of clothes shrinking, especially cotton clothes are more prone to shrinkage. Of course, clothes that have shrunk cannot be worn anymore, but it is a pity to see good clothes ruined like this. However, there are solutions to the problem of shrinkage of cotton clothes. Some tips can restore the clothes to their original state. So, how to restore shrunk cotton clothes? Let’s take a look at the method below.

Method 1

Baby shampoo soak

Applicable: knitwear, cotton, wool, cashmere and almost all other clothing materials

Not suitable for: Silk

[Principle] Baby shampoo and conditioner can relax the fibers in shrunken clothes, making them easier to stretch so they can return to their original shape. However, be sure to measure accurately when stretching clothes, and do not over-stretch them, causing the clothes to deform.

1. Fill a basin with warm water, then add some baby shampoo or conditioner and stir well to mix.

2. Soak the shrunken clothes in water for about 5 minutes.

3. Take out the clothes, squeeze out the water, then lay them flat on a dry towel, and roll up the towel and clothes together.

4. Stretch out the towel after a few minutes. After going through these steps, the shrunken clothes can be restored.

Method 2

Borax Soak or Vinegar Soak

Suitable for: wool, cashmere

Not suitable for: synthetic fibers

1. Pour warm water into the sink or basin, add 2 spoons of borax per liter of water, or add 500ml of white vinegar per liter of water.

Remove the garment, stretch it to the correct size, and dry it normally.

2. After mixing evenly, soak the woolen clothes in water for at least 25 minutes. If the clothing has shrunk significantly, you can gently pull the clothing while soaking.

3. After 25 minutes, take out the clothes and wring them dry. Spread the clothes flat on the towel, roll them into a ball, and wring them dry again. Then let the clothes stay in the towel for about 10 minutes.

4. Take out the clothes and lay them flat to dry.

Method 3

Warm water

Suitable for: Jeans

1. Try to wear the shrunken jeans. If you really can't wear them, soak them in warm water for at least 15 minutes.

2. Fill the bathtub with warm water, sit in it wearing jeans, with water at least covering your legs, and soak for about 10 minutes.

3. Wear your jeans, walk around and bend your legs to allow the jeans fibers to fully stretch. Maintain this for 1 hour.

4. Take off your jeans and hang them to dry.
