What causes dry and flaky lips

We will find that sometimes our lips are very dry and flaky, especially in autumn when the weather gradually gets cooler and drier. Our skin needs a lot of water. If the dehydration is too severe, the lips will become dry and flaky. If you feel your lips are dry, you can apply lipstick to keep your lips moisturized, but don't use low-quality lipstick as it is not good for your skin. ① A vicious cycle of bad habits

Many people will subconsciously lick their lips when they feel dry and uncomfortable. However, the more they lick, the drier their lips become, and the more they lick, forming a vicious cycle. The skin around the lips may become rough and thick, or the lips may even swell, forming what is medically known as "tongue licking dermatitis" or "chronic cheilitis." Whether from the perspective of health or aesthetics, it is better to change this unsightly habit of licking your lips.

②Using cheap and low-quality lipstick

Because cheap lipsticks contain a lot of oil that has not been carefully purified and too much wax, some of which are unstable natural oils from animals and plants, which can easily oxidize and emit odor; too much wax will affect the metabolism of the lip skin.

③Forget about your lips when applying sunscreen

The skin of the lips has no pigment protection and its color is darker than the skin of other parts of the body. Therefore, it is most likely to absorb ultraviolet rays, leading to the loss of moisture in the lips.

④Excessive use of permanent lipstick

Non-fading lipsticks contain volatile ingredients, and most non-fading lipsticks are oil-free and less moisturizing than other lipsticks.

⑤ Toothpaste residue on lips

What's good for your teeth may not be good for your lips. In fact, toothpaste residue on the lips will strip away precious and scarce oils and moisture, causing chapped lips.

So how to solve dry lips:

① Get rid of the habit of licking your lips with a dry tongue. I believe many people have this bad habit. When your lips are dry, you will unconsciously and naturally lick your lips with your tongue to wet them, which can indeed relieve the dryness temporarily. However, you should know that doing so will increase the evaporation of moisture on the surface of the lips, and the more you lick your lips, the drier they will become. Now, try to resist licking your lips.

② The lips are relatively dry. This may also be caused by the dry weather or your bad habit of licking your lips frequently. You need to pay attention to using some lip balm on a regular basis. In addition, eat more vegetables and fruits, drink more water, and take some vitamin tablets appropriately, which will help alleviate the condition.

③It is recommended that friends in the north wear masks when going out. It is generally dry and windy when going out in autumn, so the moisture in the lips is easily lost. If you run outside for a day and come back, your lips will be cracked. This happens every time. Therefore, if your lips are prone to dryness and flaking, you can wear a mask when going out.

④Drink more water to replenish water. Drinking less water can also cause dry lips. No matter what you do, drinking more water is good for you, but of course you shouldn't drink too much. Eat more fruits to supplement vitamins. Eat more fresh vegetables and follow diet therapy. Of course, when it comes to supplementing vitamins, the same principle applies to eating more green and fresh vegetables. Try not to be picky about food and eat simply every day. I don’t have to say that you should eat vegetarian food every day, but it is very good to eat more vegetables as much as possible.
