Methods for detecting bone age

Methods for detecting bone age

In daily life, we have all heard of bone age. Bone age cannot usually be tested by oneself and requires testing in the hospital. In fact, bone age is the age of human bones. Doctors can usually detect a person's bone age through X-rays. Testing bone age allows everyone to keep track of their growth and development at any time. If growth is too fast, injections can be used to simulate growth. The following introduces methods for testing bone age.

How to detect bone age?

Simple bone age test: You can go to the radiology department of any major hospital to take a full-length X-ray of the wrist bones, and then perform a basic epiphyseal closure analysis based on the film to determine the bone age. The price is not expensive, generally between 40-100, depending on the machine used. CRDR is different from ordinary X-rays.

Complete bone age measurement: You need to go to a professional bone age measurement research institution to undergo a series of tests and examinations. The price is relatively expensive, probably more than 600-800 yuan.

How to measure bone age

1. Simple bone age test. This is a relatively simple and convenient way, which is to go to the radiology department of a large hospital to have an X-ray of the wrist bones, then check the bone closure status in the wrist bone film, and perform analysis to determine the bone age.

2. Conduct a more systematic bone age test. Go to a professional bone age testing agency to conduct a more comprehensive and systematic series of related examinations to better determine bone growth and development.

3. Roughly calculate bone age and development. That is, you can roughly estimate physical development based on relevant calculation formulas or methods. For example, if the difference between bone age and chronological age is within plus or minus one year, it is considered normal development; if the difference between bone age and chronological age is greater than one year, it is considered early development, which we call precocious puberty; if the difference between bone age and chronological age is less than years, it is considered delayed development, which we call late puberty.

4. Ultrasonic bone age test is available in many pediatric hospitals. It is radiation-free and provides objective and accurate test results. Many children have it done twice a year.

There are many methods for determining bone age in children, which can be divided into the following types:

1. The bone age counting method of ossification center is more traditional.

2. Bone age atlas method. The most commonly used method is the GP atlas method, which is very simple to use. The X-ray to be evaluated is compared with the atlas standard film in its entirety until the X-ray film with the most similar developmental level to the standard film is selected.

3. Bone age scoring method. The most commonly used method is the TW3 scoring method, which uses the principle of the TW bone age method. It is a bone age assessment method suitable for Chinese children developed by experts through research on the bone development of Chinese children.
