One eye is swollen after sleeping?

In life, I believe many people have had this experience, that is, waking up from a sleep and finding one eye swollen. If it is soft tissue swelling caused by local pressure during sleep, local hot compress can generally be used. If not, go to a regular hospital's ophthalmology clinic in time to see if it is conjunctival congestion. If it is caused by congestion, you must pay attention to rest, and then the eyes will slowly recover.

What causes swollen eyelids? Eyelids are medically called ptosis. The skin of the eyelids is thinner and more delicate than the skin on other parts of the body. The subcutaneous tissue is relatively loose, and fluid can easily accumulate, causing swelling of the eyelid skin and a tense and shiny appearance. At this time, the eyelids feel heavy and cannot move flexibly. We call this condition eyelid edema. The main reasons for swollen eyelids are as follows:

Eye infection

1. Infection of the eyelid and eyeball itself can cause swollen eyelids. The most common eye inflammations include sty, also known as stye, acute conjunctivitis, also known as red eyes, keratitis, etc. Another type is viral infection of the eye, such as eye herpes and shingles. Trauma to the eyelids, such as insect stings, can cause inflammation; inflammation around the eyes, such as acute dacryocystitis and orbital periostitis, can cause swelling.

Infection of tissues near the eye

2 Infections of tissues near the eyes, such as inflammation of the nose, ears, and mouth, can cause eyelid edema.

allergy

3 Edema is caused by skin contact with allergens, such as paint allergy, or allergy to certain eye drops, oral medications, cosmetics, etc., which can cause eye swelling. For example, urticaria comes and goes suddenly and can be effectively treated with anti-allergic drugs.

Systemic diseases

4 Systemic diseases can also cause swollen eyelids. For example, in acute and chronic nephritis, the early symptom is painless swelling of the eyelids. Early heart disease can cause eyelid edema. Heart disease, hypothyroidism and anemia can all cause eyelid edema. Idiopathic neurovascular eyelid edema occurs suddenly and the edema subsides slowly, often taking several months to subside.

What to do if your eyelids are swollen

1. Don't drink too much water to avoid worsening eyelid swelling;

2. Choose to use a higher pillow when sleeping at night, which can effectively reduce the possibility of eyelid swelling;

3. Use frozen milk to cool your eyes, or use frozen chamomile tea bags to cool your eyes, which can have a good improvement effect;

4. Cover up with makeup. This is also a very common and practical method.

5. Refrigerate the cucumber, then cut it into slices and apply cold compress to the eyelids for ten minutes. This can tighten the skin and relieve eyelid swelling.

6. Slice raw potatoes and press them on the eyelids for about fifteen minutes, which can also help reduce swelling.

7. Put a cup of tea in the refrigerator for 15 minutes, then soak a cotton pad and apply it on the eyelids to reduce swelling.

8. Massaging the eyelids and temples can also achieve good results. Massage the center of your eye bag about ten times before going to bed. If you persist in doing this for a long time, it can effectively relieve swollen eyelids.

9. Eat more foods that help protect your eyes, such as fish, animal offal, carrots, potatoes, etc.
