I've been crying since my eyes were poked

People only have one pair of eyes, and once the eyeball is damaged, the damage is often irreversible, so we should take good care of our eyes. The eyes are very fragile. If poked by foreign objects, the eyes will cause pain and constant tears in mild cases, and the eyeball may rupture in severe cases. If the cornea is injured, you must go to the hospital for treatment in time, otherwise it will damage your eyesight or even cause blindness.

1. What to do if your eyes are pierced and tears are flowing

If there is only conjunctival trauma and no penetrating injury, only local antibiotic eye drops are needed. Rest your eyes, avoid fatigue, and don't stare at the computer for too long. It will usually heal in a week. If there is corneal trauma and combined penetrating injury, it must be taken seriously and must be treated by an ophthalmologist. You can't handle it yourself. The treatment principles for each stage of ocular trauma are different. It is recommended to apply cold compress for 24 hours to reduce traumatic bleeding and edema. If the situation is very serious, you need to seek medical attention in time. If not treated in time, infection may occur and you may even need to remove the eyeball. After eye removal, the vision of the other eye will also be affected due to sympathetic ophthalmia. Don't ruin your child's life for the sake of saving trouble.

2. Classification of eye injuries

Ocular injuries are divided into mechanical and non-mechanical injuries. The former includes blunt trauma, penetrating trauma, foreign objects in the eye, etc., such as being hit by a racket, fist, etc., and being stabbed by sharp objects such as needles, knives, scissors, branches, pen tips, wires, etc., all belong to this category; the latter includes burns, chemical injuries, radiation injuries, etc., such as being scalded by boiling water, lime falling into the eyes, burns during electric welding, etc.

3. There are different first aid methods for eye injuries

1. Being stabbed, foreign objects are bent or have barbs

Never pull it out by yourself, otherwise the lens and retina may be pulled out as well. You can first do a simple fixation on the foreign body inserted in the eye to avoid greater damage caused by shaking during medical treatment. If you are pierced by a smooth foreign object such as an injection needle or scissors, you can gently pull it out along the wound yourself and then go to the hospital immediately.

2. Dust or other small foreign objects fly into the eyes

This is something we often encounter. If this happens, you can ask a friend or family member to blow on your eyes. Be sure to flip up your upper and lower eyelids when blowing, because foreign objects can easily hide inside the eyelids. You can also gently blink your eyes to allow the foreign objects to be expelled by themselves. If the foreign body still cannot be removed, you need to go to the hospital and ask an expert to take a look.

3. Acid and alkali burns such as lime burns

Quicklime is alkaline and becomes hot when it comes into contact with water, causing alkaline burns and thermal burns to the eyeballs. This damage is irreversible. When a child falls into a lime pit or lime falls into his eyes while painting a wall, you should use local water, such as nearby tap water, river water, or well water. Of course, clean tap water is best. Rinse immediately with water, because every second counts. Rinse repeatedly for 20 to 30 minutes before going to the hospital for treatment. When rinsing, you should turn up your eyelids because limescale can easily hide in the eyelids.
