Chapped skin is a disease of dry skin and linear cracks on the hands and feet due to various reasons. This disease is a common skin disease, which is more common in the elderly and women. Due to frequent stimulation from mechanical or chemical substances, coupled with the cold winter climate, the secretion of subcutaneous sweat glands decreases, frequent friction, the skin becomes dry and dehumidified, the skin cuticle thickens and loses elasticity, so chapped skin is very likely to occur when the hands and feet move.

The occurrence of chapped skin is related to dryness and also to occupation. Some people may have to do laundry and cooking every day, and have to come into contact with some fat-soluble or alkaline substances. The skin on their hands and feet is often dry and cracked due to lack of moisture. In severe cases, the cracks can reach the deep muscle layer.

There is obvious pain and it may even affect the movement of hands and feet. The skin lesions range from wrinkles to cracks to chapped skin, with cracks of varying lengths and depths. They often occur on the flexor side of the fingers and palms, heels, soles of toes, and sides of the feet.

Traditional Chinese medicine calls this disease "chapped hands and feet", "ruptured hands and feet", "chapped wounds", etc. The disease is caused by exogenous wind and cold, which leads to imbalance of the body's qi and blood circulation, malnutrition of the meridians at the extremities, and they gradually become dry and brittle. Repeated friction or traction may lead to chapped parts.

Basic care: Apply hand cream.

I used to pay little attention to hand care, but as soon as I stretched out my hand when going out, I would want to pull it back. Then I carried a hand cream with me every day. Whenever my hands got wet, I would apply the hand cream after drying them with a tissue. My skin is not so dry and cracked anymore, but the fine lines are still there.

Vinegar soaking method.

I heard from a classmate that soaking your hands in vinegar regularly can make your hands soft and your skin naturally delicate, fair and tender. At least some masseurs in beauty salons need to do this.

Add an appropriate amount of white vinegar to a basin of warm water and soak your hands for about 15 minutes. Your hands may feel uncomfortable at first, so you can put less vinegar. After soaking, dry your hands and apply hand cream. It will be effective if you persist.

Make a hand mask. It is the same principle as facial masks and neck masks. If the skin is dehydrated, you need to apply a facial mask. The same goes for hands. This can be done at night. Before doing the hand mask, you can exfoliate first, then apply a thick layer of face cream or hand cream on your hands, wrap your hands with a wrung out hot towel, remove the towel after about 15 minutes, your hands will become white, tender and soft, then apply hand cream and go to bed.
