What is urethral bifurcation?

The human urethra is the channel through which the human body discharges urine. The human urethra should be a very neat tube. If the urethra is damaged, it will cause great harm to the human body, because if urine cannot be discharged, toxins will accumulate in the body, causing more diseases. Some people may find that their urethra is bleeding and bifurcated. Let’s understand what urethral bifurcation is.

1. Causes of bifurcated urine

1. The first situation is certain diseases of the urinary and reproductive system, such as urethritis, prostatitis, etc. In addition to forked urine stream, this type of disease is often accompanied by symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, and pain when urinating. The causes of the disease are usually bacteria, chlamydia, mycoplasma, Trichomonas, fungi, etc. Under the invasion of pathogenic microorganisms, the affected tissues and organs become inflamed, and the urethral mucosal exudate or prostatic secretion increases. The secretion contains mucin components. When the secretion flows to the external urethral orifice, the water evaporates and the mucin causes the external urethral orifice to adhere and close. When urinating, if the closed external urethral opening is only partially opened due to the impact of urine, the urine stream will become thinner. When the closed external urethral opening opens like a sieve, the urine stream will fork. When the external urethral opening is completely open, the urine stream returns to normal. If bifurcated urine is caused by inflammatory diseases, you should go to the hospital for treatment in time.

2. The second situation is that bifurcated urine stream sometimes occurs after sexual excitement or sexual intercourse. The former is caused by sexual excitement, which causes the genitals to become congested and the glands in the urethra to secrete more fluid, while the latter is the discharge of semen remaining in the urethra. The function of this condition is roughly the same as that of inflammation.

3. Urinary bifurcation is caused by temporary partial obstruction of the anterior urethra or urethral opening. For example, bifurcated urination in the morning is caused by the accumulation of urine in the bladder overnight. The pressure in the bladder is high, and the impact force when urine is discharged is also great, causing the shape of the urethral opening to change temporarily.

2. Treatment and Prevention

1. General treatment: Enhance confidence, eliminate mental worries, and control sexual desire, but forced abstinence is not advisable. Avoid alcohol and irritating foods, take a hot water sitz bath once a night, apply local physical therapy, and change obvious triggering factors in your life such as avoiding long periods of cycling.

2. Prostate massage: Regular prostate massage can promote the discharge of prostate inflammatory secretions. It should be done once a week. At the same time, routine examination of prostate fluid can also be performed to evaluate the treatment effect.

3. Drug infusion: insert a special balloon catheter through the urethra, inject sterile saline into the prostatic urethra and aspirate several times to absorb the purulent secretions, then inject antibiotics once a week.

4. Urethral dilation: For those with urethral stenosis or obstruction, regular urinary dilation is performed to facilitate excretion. When the bougie passes through the urethra, it can stretch the prostate opening, which is beneficial for gland drainage.
