Blisters after moxibustion are extremely itchy

Moxibustion is a relatively common Chinese medicine treatment and is particularly popular nowadays. Moxibustion can treat and relieve many diseases. Therefore, there are many moxibustion specialty stores that provide targeted treatment for some common symptoms. There are many things to pay attention to when doing moxibustion, especially going to some regular stores to do moxibustion, otherwise moxibustion will also cause some harm to the body.

1. Excessive moxibustion

It may be that the moxibustion time is too long or the amount of moxibustion is too much. In this case, the number of moxibustion times should be reduced or the time for a single moxibustion should be shortened.

If you are not in any physical pain, it is recommended to perform moxibustion on the health points every 5-7 days, for about 3-5 minutes on each point. If you have a cold or other illness, or if you have a severe cold, you can use moxibustion on the corresponding acupoints for a longer time, from 5 to 15 minutes. If you are not sick, do not do moxibustion every day as it can easily cause internal heat (dry mouth, constipation, acne, nosebleed, etc.).

2. Detoxification reaction

Normal people rarely get blisters during moxibustion, only a few percent of people will get blisters. But for some people, who have heavy cold and dampness, and pathogenic qi that needs to be eliminated, blisters may occur. This is the most common cause of blisters from moxibustion. Large or small blisters caused by heavy dampness, cold and blocked meridians are a manifestation of the pathogenic factors in the body spreading outwards. Dampness and coldness are evil, while yang energy is righteous. When the evil is about to be forced out, moxibustion flowers will appear. Evil qi needs a channel to be expelled from the body, and moxibustion flower is this channel.

When doing moxibustion, especially direct moxibustion, sometimes blisters or even suppuration will appear in the moxibustioned area, which is a manifestation of the expulsion of evil spirits. The formation of blisters is a process of restoring the body's positive energy, eliminating evil and curing diseases, so the appearance of such blisters is conducive to the recovery of the disease. The ancients proposed that the standard for the effectiveness of moxibustion is the body's reaction, and this reaction is moxibustion sores. Therefore, the ancients used moxibustion sores as a major indicator to judge the amount of moxibustion and the treatment effect.

Some people are prone to blisters at the beginning, but as long as they persist, the previous blisters will expel a lot of toxins, and after a period of moxibustion, the meridians will be more unobstructed, and blisters will not be easy to appear later. From then on, even if you want to get a blister on purpose, you won’t be able to get it.

3. Burns and blisters

Moxibustion may fail sometimes. For example, use moxa stick to fumigate the Zusanli point on one hand, while playing with your phone with the other hand. When I saw some exciting news, the hand holding the moxa stick suddenly touched my flesh. There was a sizzling sound of the meat burning, and a big blister appeared. However, if you get one or two blisters due to hanging moxibustion or mild moxibustion, with the moxa stick "ten miles away" from the skin, this cannot be called a burn (because the fire does not directly burn the skin).

How to distinguish blisters caused by moxibustion from blisters caused by burns:

It is difficult to distinguish whether it is a burn or moxibustion burn if blisters have already appeared. It can be understood that you don't feel it's hot at first, but later blisters appear on the moxibustion site, which you call moxibustion flowers. If you can't bear the heat and blisters appear, or if the flames burn yourself, you call it burn blisters.
