Can ozone remove formaldehyde?

Decoration pollution in modern life has become an important factor affecting people's health, because the harmful substances left in various decoration materials due to improper management of the production process are a problem that can never be solved. This makes it inevitable that there will be some polluting gases after decoration. For example, formaldehyde is a very harmful substance. There are many ways to remove formaldehyde. Among them, can ozone remove formaldehyde?

Ozone (O2), also known as superoxide, is an allotrope of oxygen (O2). At room temperature, it is a light blue gas with a peculiar odor. Ozone is mainly distributed in the stratospheric atmosphere at an altitude of 10~50km, with the maximum value between 20~30km. At normal temperature and pressure, it has poor stability and can decompose into oxygen by itself. Ozone has the smell of grass. Inhaling a small amount is beneficial to the human body, but inhaling too much is harmful to human health (non-flammable, pure substance). Oxygen can be converted into ozone through electric shock.

Ozone mainly exists in the ozone layer in the lower stratosphere 20 kilometers above the earth's surface, with a content of about 50ppm. It absorbs short-wave ultraviolet rays that are harmful to the human body and prevents them from reaching the earth, thereby shielding organisms on the earth's surface from being harmed by ultraviolet rays. In the atmosphere, oxygen molecules are broken down into oxygen atoms (O) by high-energy radiation, and the oxygen atoms combine with other oxygen molecules to form ozone. Ozone will react with oxygen atoms, chlorine or other free substances to decompose and disappear. Due to this repeated generation and disappearance, the ozone content can be maintained at a certain equilibrium state.

So why can ozone remove formaldehyde? Is it harmful to the human body?

First, ozone has strong oxidizing properties and can decompose harmful substances such as formaldehyde and toluene. Second, it can sterilize and disinfect. Its bactericidal power is 3,000 times that of chlorine. Ozone can eliminate floating bacteria in the air and water in a short period of time, neutralize and decompose various toxic substances, remove all odors, and bleach and clarify polluted impurities in the water. Ozone can be used to eliminate odors, bad smells, musty smells, etc. Third, if ozone is not completely reacted, it will automatically revert to oxygen and will not cause secondary pollution. Fourth, it is harmful to the human body, so people should not be on site when ozone is working.

Warm reminder: Ozone can remove formaldehyde, and ventilation after treatment will not harm the body.

The disadvantage lies in ozone itself, which can irritate the respiratory system and is more harmful at high concentrations. It can also cause the decomposition and aging of rubber and plastics. Therefore, the controversial issue regarding the electric ion sterilization of some air purifiers and the electric dust removal of fresh air systems is that ozone is produced during electric shock. In fact, most ozone generators on the market produce ozone by shocking the air with high voltage.
