TSH value control range after hemisection of thyroid cancer

Hemisection of thyroid cancer refers to a hemisection of the thyroid gland. The postoperative TSH value should be controlled below 0.1mIU/L. TSH is the abbreviation of thyroid stimulating hormone, which is a relatively sensitive indicator of thyroid function. An increase in TSH may be related to the recurrence of thyroid cancer, but it may also be caused by taking thyroid hormone drugs.

1. Recurrence of thyroid cancer: After hemisection of thyroid cancer, the need for subsequent radioactive iodine treatment, thyroid hormone suppression therapy, etc. is determined based on the pathological results. This decision needs to be made based on the patient's pathology, age, TSH value, and other factors. If the patient's TSH value is low after surgery and thyroid cancer recurs, another surgery is required, and radioactive iodine treatment should be terminated under the guidance of a doctor. If the patient's TSH value exceeds the normal range and there is no sign of recurrence, no special treatment is required;

2. Taking thyroid hormone drugs: If the patient takes thyroid hormone drugs after surgery, such as levothyroxine sodium tablets, the TSH value will also be low. The dosage of thyroid hormone can be adjusted under the guidance of a doctor to maintain a stable TSH value;

3. Radioactive iodine treatment: After hemisection of thyroid cancer, iodine-131 treatment is also required. Iodine-131 can destroy thyroid tissue cells, reduce the sites for thyroid hormone synthesis and secretion, and thus inhibit the recurrence of thyroid cancer. It is generally recommended that patients undergo radioactive iodine treatment within six months of thyroid cancer, and the dose should not exceed 1500μg;

4. Other aspects: If the patient relapses after surgery, it is necessary to determine whether to perform thyroidectomy again based on the patient's specific situation. If surgery is not possible again, radioactive iodine-131 treatment can be selected. Patients can also use other drugs as prescribed by the doctor, such as Selenium Weikang chewable tablets, for auxiliary treatment.
