Skin cell renewal cycle

Skin cell renewal cycle

The skin is the largest organ in the human body. It is located on the surface of the human body. Although it is not hard but soft and elastic, it is the outermost defense system of the human body. Of course, precisely because it is on the surface of the human body, its state can directly reflect the youthfulness of the human body. Therefore, skin care is valued by so many people nowadays. What everyone needs to know is the specific state of the skin and the renewal cycle of skin cells. Let's learn about this knowledge together.

The skin is composed of the epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissue. The skin's metabolic cycle is generally considered to be 28 days for the outermost layer of keratin. As you age, this value will become longer and longer, reaching about 45 days at the age of 60. The outermost layer is the epidermis.

The epidermis is located on the surface of the skin and is an epithelial tissue. It has the most contact with the outside world and is the part that is most closely related to cosmetics. Although the epidermis is only about as thin as ordinary paper and the thickest part does not exceed 0.2 mm, it is developed from the bottom basal layer and is composed of epithelial cells of various shapes and sizes. The basal layer is composed of basal cells and melanocytes. Melanocytes can produce melanin. It takes about 14 days for the basal layer cells to divide and move upward to reach the top layer of the granular layer. It takes another 14 days to pass through the stratum corneum and finally fall off. This period is the cell replacement period.

As for when skin care is most effective, this has nothing to do with the skin renewal and growth cycle. Skin renewal and growth is an ongoing process; it does not start from a certain day.

To take good care of your skin, you must ensure good sleep quality. In addition, it is very important to pay attention to skin hydration and moisturizing and do a good job of sun protection. Proper exercise can make the body recover faster and improve circulation. Paying attention to nutrition in the diet, eating legumes, vegetables and fruits rich in vitamin C will make the skin appear better.
