Tips for peeling raw chestnuts

Tips for peeling raw chestnuts

As we all know, chestnut is a delicious food for health care. Legend has it that Su Dongpo once treated his leg disease by eating raw chestnuts, and Cixi also ate chestnuts to maintain her appearance. Therefore, the nutritional function of chestnuts can be seen. However, since raw chestnuts have a relatively hard shell and are liquid inside, it is very inconvenient to peel them. Therefore, many people will cook the raw chestnuts before peeling them, as follows:

1. Several tips for peeling

1. Hot water soaking method: Wash the raw chestnuts and put them in a container, add a little salt, immerse them in boiling water, and cover the pot. After 5 minutes, take out the chestnuts and cut them open, the chestnut skin will fall off along with the chestnut shell. This method of removing chestnut skin saves time and effort.

2. Boil in salt water: After washing the chestnuts, use a knife to cut a small slit in the middle, put them in salt water, and boil them on the stove for 5 minutes. While they are still hot, remove the shells and skins of the chestnuts. When they are all peeled, they are still intact.

3. Stirring method with chopsticks: Cut the chestnuts in half, peel them and put them in a basin. Add boiling water and soak them for a while. Stir them with chopsticks and the chestnut skin will separate from the chestnut meat. The soaking time should not be too long, otherwise it will affect the nutritional content of the chestnuts.

4. Refrigerator freezing method: After the chestnuts are cooked, cool them down and put them in the refrigerator to freeze for two hours to separate the shell and the meat. This way, the chestnut skin can be peeled quickly and the chestnut meat remains intact.

5. Pressure cooker method: After washing the chestnuts, cut a slit with a knife and put them in a pressure cooker without adding water. After it starts to steam, turn off the heat for three minutes. Remove the shells and skins. It is difficult to peel and it is not easy to know when to turn off the fire.

2. Benefits of Chestnuts

Chestnuts are rich in nutrients, but whether they are raw or cooked, they do not contain high levels of protein, fat and various vitamins. Their main component is sugar (i.e. carbohydrates). Chestnuts produce higher energy, but because fresh chestnuts contain more water, their various nutrients are relatively less than those of dry chestnuts and cooked chestnuts.

Chestnuts are rich in vitamin C, which can maintain the normal functions of teeth, bones, blood vessels and muscles. They can prevent and treat osteoporosis, soreness of the waist and legs, pain in muscles and bones, fatigue, etc., and delay the aging of the human body. They are an ideal health fruit for the elderly.

3. Notes

People who are not suitable to eat chestnuts:

1. People with weak spleen and stomach should not eat chestnuts raw. They should stew or fry them. They can also cook porridge with chestnuts, jujubes, poria cocos and rice. 2. People with blood diseases, such as vomiting blood and bloody stools, should eat chestnuts raw. 3. Postpartum women and children with constipation should not eat too many chestnuts. 4. Because it contains more carbohydrates, diabetics should eat chestnuts in moderation. 5. Whether eating raw, fried or stewed, they must be chewed carefully and swallowed with saliva to achieve better tonic effects.
