Why does my neck sweat at night?

People with well-developed sweat glands often sweat easily. Both adults and children are prone to excessive sweating. Especially at night, people who have good sleep quality are less likely to sweat too much because they are not affected by other factors. However, some people may sweat at night due to dreaming or being frightened. There are well-developed sweat glands all over the body, and the neck is also prone to sweating. But why does the neck sweat at night?

Some mothers find that their babies like to sweat a lot during the day, but the same thing happens when they sleep at night. What should I do if my baby sweats on his neck while sleeping?

Sweat is secreted through sweat glands distributed throughout the skin. Sweat glands are controlled by the sympathetic nerves, and the amount of sweating is related to the development of the sweat glands and the sensitivity of the sympathetic nerves. The sweat glands and nervous systems of infants and young children are not very perfect, and their metabolism is active. Their skin has many microvessels and high water content. These physiological characteristics are the main reasons for excessive sweating in infants and young children at night.

There are many reasons why children sweat excessively when sleeping, both physiological and pathological. Physiological hyperhidrosis is caused by hot weather, high room temperature, excessive clothing or too thick quilts. Some parents like to feed their children a bottle of milk before going to bed. After feeding, the child falls asleep quietly. However, this is the stage of heat production after feeding, so the child often sweats profusely.

This type of sweating is caused by the body's regulation of body temperature. Sweating often occurs more when just falling asleep and then gradually decreases. Because children have a high metabolism, high water content in the skin, more capillaries, and immature autonomic nerves, they sweat a lot, which is completely normal.

A small number of babies sweat at night while sleeping due to certain diseases, the most common of which is rickets. The main reasons are lack of vitamin D and lack of sunlight in the body, which cause low blood calcium, increased sympathetic nerve excitability and increased sweat gland secretion. In addition, acute or chronic infections can also cause night sweats in children. If you find your child sweating, wipe him/her dry with a dry towel or change his/her underwear, and take care to prevent him/her from catching a cold. Take a bath regularly.

Expose bedding or sleeping bags to the sun frequently to keep them dry and to sterilize them. For children suspected of pathological sweating, we should pay attention to the accompanying symptoms, go to the hospital for examination in time, and take appropriate treatment measures. For example, children with rickets should supplement calcium and vitamin D under the guidance of a doctor; infectious diseases should be treated with anti-infection drugs. Once the disease is cured, the symptoms of night sweats will disappear.

The temperature of the room where the baby sleeps should feel warm but not hot. Generally speaking, it is most suitable to keep it between 16 and 21 degrees Celsius. If the indoor temperature is maintained at a suitable level, the baby's sweating can be effectively reduced. Some parents are afraid that their babies will get cold when sleeping, so they like to dress their babies in thick clothes. This will make the babies sweat easily. The thickness of the clothes your baby wears when sleeping can be determined according to how comfortable you feel without covering them with anything.
