How to take a hot water sitz bath for hemorrhoids?

Hemorrhoids are a very common disease in life. The incidence of hemorrhoids has been very high in recent years. Hemorrhoids can occur at any age. Due to the special location of hemorrhoids, it is difficult to keep them clean and they are easily compressed. Therefore, if you want hemorrhoids to recover as soon as possible, it is very important to take good care of the anus. So what is the method of hot water sitz bath for hemorrhoids?

Fumigation sitz bath is the best method for conservative treatment of hemorrhoids and accelerated postoperative recovery. It can relax the anal sphincter, improve local blood circulation, promote the absorption of inflammation and relieve pain, and clean the local area to facilitate wound healing. Generally, hot water fumigation is done for 5 minutes, followed by a sitz bath with medicine (usually potassium permanganate) for 5 minutes, a total of 10 minutes.

Prepare potassium permanganate solution. There are also potassium permanganate disinfectant tablets, but they can easily stain your hands when used, and if they are not completely crushed and dissolved, the local particles will often lead to excessive concentration, which may burn the anal wound. Therefore, it is best to use potassium permanganate solution, which can be bought at a pharmacy or online. It should be noted that a 1:50 concentration of potassium permanganate solution should be diluted 100 times before use (it cannot be directly purchased in a 1:5000 concentration, which is used for gynecology and andrology. If you are doing a sitz bath for anorectal surgery, 10 bottles will be enough at a time). You should also prepare a transparent electric anal medicine bath and place it on the toilet. You cannot use an ordinary plastic basin to squat and take a bath. Squatting for a long time will damage your knees and there is a risk of tearing your anus.

It is best to defecate before taking a sitz bath, and keep the anus clean after defecation. You can use an anal cleaner filled with warm water to rinse the anus. Feces contain various toxins and bacteria. If you do not clean properly after defecation, it is very likely that these bacteria will grow in the anus and cause edema.

Fumigation: Place the electric anal medicated bath on the toilet, pour in 500 ml of 80-degree hot water, sit on it and fumigate the anus for 5 minutes.

Sitz bath: After fumigation, pour in 2 liters of cold boiled water and control the temperature at around 40 degrees. Pour 20 ml of potassium permanganate solution into a small measuring cup, stir to make a 5000 potassium permanganate solution, and sit in the bath for 5 minutes. Plug in the electric pump when taking a sitz bath to promote the flow of liquid medicine, massage the affected area of the lower body, promote blood circulation and metabolism, and enhance the bactericidal and disinfection effects.

When taking a sitz bath, you can combine it with anal lifting exercises. Regularly lift and contract the anus and then relax it. This lifting and relaxing exercise can improve the efficacy of the medicine.

If it is inconvenient to take a sitz bath, you can wipe and disinfect the anal wound with an iodine-containing disinfectant wipe after defecation to prevent bacterial growth and worsening of hemorrhoids. In addition, you should also be careful not to sit for long periods of time. When sitting, use an anal support pad with four air channels to keep the anus suspended and breathable, promote venous return and reduce swelling while avoiding tenderness. Combining it with a sitz bath can better accelerate recovery.

Precautions

Sitz bath time: once in the morning and once in the evening is appropriate. One more time can be added after defecation. The maximum number should not exceed 4 times a day. Each time, steam with hot water for 5 minutes, then take a potassium permanganate sitz bath for 5 minutes.

During a sitz bath, if the patient experiences any discomfort, such as a rapid pulse or dizziness, the sitz bath should be stopped immediately. In addition, wear non-slip slippers when taking a bath in the bathroom to prevent falling. Pay attention to keeping warm when sitting in the bath. You can use a bath towel to surround yourself to avoid catching cold. The ambient temperature of the sitting bath should be maintained at around 28℃.

Potassium permanganate will cause coloring, which will fade away on its own within a period of time. Using vitamin C solution can help fade brown spots on the skin.

Contraindications for sitting bath: Women who are menstruating or have anal itching cannot take sitting bath. During menstruation, the body's resistance decreases, and a sitting bath with the cervix slightly open can easily allow sewage to enter the uterine cavity, leading to inflammation of the reproductive organs.
