Cheilitis is so common in our daily life that most people don’t know how it occurs. In fact, cheilitis is mainly caused by mucosal lesions. Many people’s lips will peel and crack in winter, and tearing them with their hands can easily lead to local infection, which will gradually cause inflammation. 1. Acute allergic cheilitis It is a mucosal disease that is prone to occur and belongs to type I allergic reaction. Lips, also known as vermilion, are located at the junction of human skin and mucous membrane. Because they are close to the surface of the body, they are extremely rich in capillaries. Because the surface tissue of lip vermilion is very thin, it is easy for foreign objects to "invade". The immune cells and antibodies running in the blood vessels will "step forward" and "fight" with the invaders. Therefore, the red part of the lips becomes a battlefield where antigens and antibodies fight a bloody battle. The cause of dry, desquamative cheilitis is unknown. It may be related to acute inflammation, or it may be related to sun exposure, tobacco, alcohol, and cosmetic stimulation; white rosary infection can cause fungal cheilitis. Deep fissures can extend to the skin, and may bleed and form blood scabs. The fissures are difficult to heal for a long time. Grayish white scales may cover the entire lip. Fungal cheilitis is mainly characterized by white pseudomembranes or patches, which are not easy to remove. The lips may become red and swollen, with ulcers and erosions. PAS staining revealed hyphae. Patients often lick their lips due to dryness and pain, and sometimes rub them due to mild itching. 2. The onset of chronic cheilitis is often related to various chronic, long-term and continuous irritations, such as dryness and coldness, and especially to bad habits such as licking and biting lips. Chronic cheilitis can occur on both the upper and lower lips, but is more common on the lower lip. Symptoms often recur, sometimes mild and sometimes severe, especially in the windy and dry winter season. The disease occurs after exposure to sunlight. Bad habits such as licking lips, biting lips, and tearing off lip red when there is a thin scab can cause infection and erosion to become cheilitis over time. Lip burns can also lead to chronic inflammation if not treated in time. People with tuberculosis, hepatitis and other lesions in the body are also prone to cheilitis. |
