How often should a newborn baby be fed at night?

As we all know, the diet of a newborn baby is completely irregular. Not only does the baby need to breastfeed during the day, but mothers also have to get up often at night to feed the baby. Here we remind parents that there are many things to pay attention to when feeding the baby at night. For example, it is easy to catch a cold if you breastfeed at night, so you must keep warm. So how many times should you feed the baby every night?

Number of night feedings for newborns:

Breastfeeding frequency, duration and amount of milk

For babies 1 to 3 days old, breastfeed on demand, with each feeding lasting 10 to 15 minutes (the principle of breastfeeding on demand should be followed, depending on individual differences).

For babies aged 4 to 14 days, feed them every 4 hours, with each feeding lasting 15 to 20 minutes and 30 to 90 ml each time (follow the principle of breastfeeding on demand and determine according to individual differences).

For babies between 15 and 30 days old, feed them every 3 hours for 15 to 20 minutes each time. Breastfeeding times can be arranged at 6, 9, and 12 a.m.; 3, 6, and 9 p.m.; 12 p.m. and 3 a.m., with each feeding being 70 to 100 ml (following the principle of breastfeeding on demand and depending on individual differences).

How to tell if your baby is full

If a baby who is exclusively breastfed urinates more than 6 times a day, it is a sign that the milk supply is sufficient and the baby is full. If the baby urinates less than 5 times, it means that the baby is not getting enough milk and is not full. The stool of a breastfed baby is soft and buttery, and the baby may have 2-4 bowel movements a day, which indicates that the milk supply is sufficient and the baby is full.

If a breastfed baby has small stools that are green and foamy, this means the mother's milk supply is insufficient and the baby is not full. Changes in a baby's weight often indicate whether the baby is full or hungry. For babies under 6 months old, the average weight gain is 600 grams per month or at least 125 grams per week. Babies older than 6 months gain an average of 500 grams of weight per month. These indicate that there is enough breast milk and the baby is full. If the baby's weight gain does not meet the above standards and the difference is large, after excluding diseases, it mostly means that the milk supply is insufficient and the baby is not full. When babies are full, they will be in a good mood, behave happily and joke freely.
