Can fumigated vinegar kill bacteria?

Can fumigated vinegar kill bacteria?

In life, many people often sterilize their families, because frequent sterilization can effectively prevent the growth of some bacteria and prevent family members from getting sick. Some people choose to use 84 disinfectant, while others choose to use fumigation with vinegar, which is to boil the vinegar and let the vinegar vapor diffuse in the air. However, the smell of fumigation with vinegar is relatively strong. So, can fumigation with vinegar kill bacteria?

1. Acetic acid can sterilize and disinfect

Edible vinegar is mainly a relatively dilute acetic acid solution. Acetic acid, also known as ethanoic acid, is a common organic acid and is indeed a chemical substance that can kill bacteria and disinfect.

2. Fumigation vinegar cannot achieve the sterilization effect

The acetic acid concentration of vinegar is very low. The concentration of homemade vinegar is less than 1%, and the concentration of white vinegar with the highest concentration can only reach 5%. Even if household vinegar essence is used, the concentration is below 10%. Although acetic acid does have a disinfecting and bactericidal effect when it reaches a certain concentration, the effect is not very good, and it is not recommended for use even at high concentrations. The acetic acid concentration in edible vinegar is very low, far from enough to be able to disinfect.

3. High concentration of acetic acid is risky

Of course, the bactericidal effect will increase accordingly with the increase of acetic acid concentration. If you really want to use vinegar essence for sterilization, you need to buy some high-concentration vinegar essence specially used for cleaning, with a concentration of more than 30%. However, this high concentration makes acetic acid highly corrosive, so try to avoid contact with skin and it must never be eaten.

4 Harms of fumigation vinegar

Long-term vinegar fumigation will produce a very strong irritating smell in the room, which is irritating to the respiratory mucosa, and especially can cause attacks or aggravation of diseases in patients with bronchitis, emphysema, asthma, etc.

5 Tips

For families, the best way to prevent colds and disinfect is to ventilate the room or go to the health and epidemic prevention department to ask professional disinfection personnel to spray or fumigate the room with a suitable concentration of liquid medicine according to the size of the room, instead of blindly using fumigation vinegar.
