Can you still eat rice if it has moths?

Generally, after rice is ground, the outer protective film is destroyed, which can easily lead to rice being infested with insects. In addition, many people have the habit of storing rice at home. The temperature in summer is very high. If the rice is not stored properly, it can easily lead to rice being infested with insects. It would be a pity to throw away the rice after it is infested with insects, but many people are afraid that it is unsafe to eat it. In fact, rice can still be eaten after it is infested with insects.

1. Can you still eat rice if it has moths?

The answer is yes. Here are the reasons:

1. Rice stored at home is prone to infestation because it has been stored for a long time. If the infestation is not serious, you can put the rice bag into the freezer of the refrigerator and freeze it for 24 hours before taking it out. The bugs are frozen to death and turn red and black, making them easy to pick out, and the taste of the rice remains unchanged.

2. The larvae of the rice moth live in broken rice and spin silk to connect the broken rice into a long cylindrical cocoon. It is harmless to people, just wash the rice clean. I'm afraid most people have encountered this problem and it doesn't affect eating. Generally, the bugs in rice are relatively clean and do not contain any viruses. As long as they are dealt with and the rice is washed clean, it can be eaten normally. There is no need to throw away all the rice in a bag if there are a few bugs in it. This will cause a lot of waste. In fact, under normal circumstances, rice is not easy to get bugs, because rice is relatively dry and contains very little water. Such an environment is not suitable for bugs. Rice stored at home is prone to bugs because it has been stored for a long time.

3. This type of insect does not contain any bacteria that can cure diseases, and can be easily killed at high temperatures. Just be sure to deal with the rice that has moths before eating it.

2. Where do rice bag moths come from?

1. When rice is stored at home, insects such as moths fly in from outside, find gaps and drill into the rice jar or rice bag to lay eggs. After a certain period of incubation, the eggs turn into small insects, and after a period of time, they will pupate and become moths. Because the eggs are very small and difficult to see with the naked eye, it would seem that the insects appear out of thin air.

2. It is possible that before the rice was purchased, when it was stored in a warehouse or other original storage place, insects had already laid eggs in it, but the eggs had not hatched at that time. In this case, bugs will usually appear in the rice within a few days after it is purchased.

3. How to deal with rice moths

1. Pour 50 grams of liquor into the bottle without covering it. Then bury the bottle in the rice with the mouth of the bottle higher than the rice surface and seal the rice bag. Due to the weak breathing of rice, the air becomes less and less, and the volatile ethanol in the wine has insecticidal and bactericidal effects, so it can prevent insects.

2. First put an appropriate amount of water in the pot, then take a dozen peppercorns and put them in the pot and cook with the water, then put the cloth bag in to soak it, take it out and dry it. When packing rice, sew a few small pockets with gauze and put some peppercorns in them. Place them at the bottom, middle and upper parts of the rice respectively. Tie the mouth of the bag tightly and place it in a cool and ventilated place. This will prevent the rice from being infested with insects.

3. Placing a few cloves of garlic scattered among the rice can have the same anti-insect effect. Rice: Adding a little kelp to rice can prevent it from becoming moldy. However, the kelp should be taken out every 10 days or so and then put into the rice after 10 minutes. One portion of kelp can be reused more than 20 times. It can not only inhibit mold but also prevent rice from being infested with insects.

4. How to prevent rice from getting moths

1. The rice utensils should be clean and tight. It is best to place the rice in a jar, jar or bucket with a tight lid. If you use a cloth bag to store rice, put a plastic bag on the outside of the bag and tie the bag tightly.

2. Soak the cloth bag in boiled pepper water, put the dried rice in the air-dried bag, then wrap some new peppers of the year with gauze and place them on the top, middle and bottom of the rice respectively; tie the bag tightly to prevent mildew and repel insects.

3. Mix kelp and rice in a ratio of 1:100 by weight. Take out the kelp and dry it in the sun every week to remove moisture. This will keep the rice dry and prevent it from getting moldy, and kill rice weevils.

4. Putting a few crab shells, turtle shells or onions in the rice bucket can also prevent insect infestation.
