What to do if a ganglion cyst ruptures

A ganglion cyst is a cystic tumor that appears in the tendon sheath at the joint. It is a disease caused by the degeneration of the connective tissue of the joint capsule, ligament, and tendon sheath. It often occurs on the back of the wrist and foot, and is more common in women. The disease has a relatively slow onset and can cause a certain degree of functional impairment to the patient in severe cases. If a ganglion cyst ruptures, don't worry, because this type of cyst will usually disappear on its own after rupture.

1. What to do if a ganglion cyst ruptures

No treatment is needed. Rupture is a good thing. The ganglion cyst itself needs to be pressed more and it will disappear if it ruptures. The treatment of ganglion cyst is to squeeze or hammer it to rupture the ganglion cyst and gradually absorb it on its own, but it may recur after treatment. Those that are connected to the joint cavity are not easy to rupture. Alternatively, puncture can be used to extract the cyst fluid and inject adrenal cortical hormone or hyaluronidase, which has a certain therapeutic effect. When other treatment methods are ineffective, ganglion cysts can be surgically removed.

2. Causes of Ganglion Cyst

The cause of the disease is still unclear, but it may be related to chronic trauma. It may be caused by injury, overstrain (especially in the hands and fingers), osteoarthritis, some systemic immune diseases, or even infection. Some occupations that require long-term repetitive joint movements, such as typists, cargo handlers, or industries that require long-term computer operation, can cause or aggravate this disease. Common affected areas include the wrists, fingers, shoulders, etc. Women and diabetic patients are more likely to suffer from this disease.

3. Prevention of ganglion cyst

1. Holding the mouse for too long or with incorrect posture can easily cause damage to the synovial cavity of the hand joint, thereby causing a ganglion cyst. Therefore, office workers who need to use computers and mice for a long time should take a 5 to 10 minute break every hour and do stretching exercises or local massage.

2. You can do some gentle hand exercises to relieve pain. Rotating your wrist is one of the simpler exercises. Twist your wrists for about 2 minutes. It exercises all wrist muscles, restores blood circulation, and eliminates the bent posture of the wrist.

3. After exertion, rinse the affected area with hot water to promote smooth local blood flow. Local massage can also help promote blood circulation.
