The ear is an important part of the body. Many people like to pick their ears in daily life, especially when their ears feel itchy. They will also use a lot of force to pick their ears. Doing this for a long time will easily cause some damage to the ears, which will make the ears more susceptible to otitis externa infection. When suffering from otitis externa, patients will feel obvious pain in the ears, and even pain in the cheeks. Ear root and cheek pain There are two possible situations based on the symptoms. One is inflammation of the external auditory canal and pain caused by furuncle, which is caused by bacterial infection. The other is earwax blockage in the external auditory canal, which can cause swelling and pain in the external auditory canal. It is recommended to go to the hospital for examination. The latter is more common and can be cured by taking out the earwax. Causes of otitis externa 1. When the temperature rises and the air humidity is too high, glandular secretion is affected, which reduces the local defense capability. 2. Changes in the local environment of the external auditory canal: When swimming, bathing or washing your hair, water enters the external auditory canal, soaks the skin, destroys the stratum corneum, and allows microorganisms to invade. In addition, the external auditory canal is slightly acidic, and various factors that change this acidic environment will reduce the resistance of the external auditory canal. 3. Trauma: accidentally damaging the skin of the external auditory canal when picking ears, or scratching the skin with foreign objects, causing infection. 4. Pus from otitis media flows into the external auditory canal, irritating and soaking the skin, causing skin damage and infection. 5. Systemic diseases reduce the body's resistance, and the external auditory canal is also prone to infection and difficult to cure, such as diabetes, chronic nephritis, endocrine disorders, anemia, etc. Treatment of otitis externa 1. Early local hot compress or ultrashort wave thermal therapy; 2. In severe cases, antibiotics should be used to control the infection. Taking sedatives and analgesics; 3. Apply 1-3% phenol glycerin or 10% ichthyol glycerin to the ear topically, or apply the above liquid gauze to the affected area, changing the gauze twice a day. Chronic cases can be treated with topical application of antibiotic and steroid hormone mixtures, pastes or creams. Pus and secretions in the external auditory canal can be cleaned with 3% hydrogen peroxide; 4. When the furuncle matures, the pus head should be punctured or drained by incision in time. |
