What to do if catkins get into throat

What to do if catkins get into throat

In spring, all kinds of flowers are competing for beauty. When walking on the road, you can not only smell the fragrance of various flowers, but also the catkins floating in the wind. Looking from a distance, the flying willow catkins seem very artistic, but if you are among them, you may inhale the catkins into your nose and throat, and in serious cases, they may get stuck in your trachea and cause suffocation. So we must also take corresponding precautions in spring. So if willow catkins get stuck in our throats without us noticing, what emergency measures should we take?

Rinse your nasal cavity every day

People with allergic rhinitis or those who are sensitive to pollen and catkins should clean their nasal cavity 2-3 times a day. Special nasal wash devices for cleaning the nasal cavity can be purchased at pharmacies and hospitals. Or you can fill a small suction bottle with saline solution and inhale it through your nose to completely remove the pollen components in your nasal cavity.

Choose the right time for outdoor exercise

People with allergies should stay away from catkins and pollen and should reduce going out, especially asthma patients. When doing outdoor activities and various sports, try to choose the time when the catkin index is the lowest, such as early morning, late at night, or after a shower.

"Arm yourself" before going out

Take precautions as much as possible when going out. People who are prone to allergies should avoid going to parks and other places with more pollen and catkins in spring or wear masks. Wearing glasses can reduce the chances of your eyes being affected, so try wearing glasses with lenses instead of contact lenses, or wear sunglasses when you go out. For friends who ride bicycles or electric vehicles, it is best to wear a scarf or sunglasses when going out to prevent willow catkins from flying into the eyes and affecting normal driving. When willow catkins float in, never rub them with your hands, as this will scratch the conjunctiva. If the catkins enter deep into the eyes, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time to remove the foreign body to avoid damage to the eyes.

"Security check" before entering

Be sure to clean the willow catkins on your body before entering the room. If you don’t clean them thoroughly, be sure to wash the clothes with willow catkins on them after entering the room. Don’t let the catkins wander around in your bedroom. When willow catkins stick to your skin, remember to remove them in time. It is best to wash your face with warm water to prevent the invisible filaments of willow catkins from remaining.

Susceptible groups should take more vitamins

Eat more fruits on a daily basis, and supplement vitamin C and vitamin E with your three meals appropriately, such as Chinese cabbage, tomatoes, carrots, etc. Children and the elderly can take anti-allergic drugs for prevention. When cooking, you can add more ginger to help reduce body inflammation caused by allergies. You can also prepare some ginger candy and eat it as a snack, which can effectively relieve allergy symptoms.
