The hazards of ct enhanced scanning

Enhanced scanning is a scan of the blood. Before the scan, a contrast agent will be injected to ensure the accuracy of the instrument's observation of the human body. Before doing this test, you must be on an empty stomach and do a skin test. Some tests require the use of X-rays, which will have some adverse effects on the human body. This is also what most people worry about. So what are the dangers of CT enhanced scanning? Let's learn about CT enhanced scanning

CT is necessary as a clinical examination for certain diseases. Many people are worried about its radiation and side effects. But can you imagine that we live in an environment full of various radiations, what will happen to our bodies? It’s just that the radiation from CT, X-ray, MRI, etc. is more concentrated and larger, but if we don’t come into contact with it often, the impact on our body is relatively small. Sometimes these examinations are still necessary to clarify the condition.

CT enhanced scanning is a commonly used method of CT examination. It is performed on the basis of CT plain scanning. During the examination, CT scanning is performed after a certain dose of iodinated contrast agent is injected intravenously. It is a supplement to plain scanning. When the iodine concentration in the blood increases, the density difference between the diseased tissue and the adjacent normal tissue increases, thereby improving the lesion display rate. Make the lesions appear more clearly, to show the lesions that are not shown or not shown clearly on the plain scan, and to make a qualitative diagnosis of the lesions based on the presence or absence of enhancement or the type of enhancement.

The significance of enhanced CT scanning

Since intravenous injection of contrast agent enhances the contrast between the lesion and surrounding tissue, enhanced scanning is more conducive to discovering and more clearly displaying the scope of the lesion, providing more valuable information for the qualitative diagnosis of the lesion. Therefore, in order to improve the detection rate of lesions, discover lesions that are not found during plain scanning, and better clarify the nature and scope of lesions, CT enhanced scanning is an indispensable inspection method.

Specifically, the significance of CT enhanced examination is:

⑴ Improve the detection rate of lesions, especially small lesions. Through enhanced scanning, the degree of enhancement of the lesion and the surrounding tissue is often inconsistent, and the density difference between the two increases, so lesions that are not easy to show on plain scans can be discovered. Practice has shown that there are many examples of small lesions, especially solid masses, in solid organs such as the brain, liver, pancreas, spleen, and kidneys that appear to be of equal density on plain scan images. It is inevitable that misdiagnosis may occur when relying solely on plain scans.

⑵More conducive to the location of the lesion. Although plain scan can show most lesions, the edges of the lesions are not clear. Enhanced examination is helpful in showing the size, range and adjacent relationships of the lesions, and is helpful for locating the lesions.

⑶It is more conducive to the qualitative analysis of the lesions. CT plain scan not only has a low detection rate, but also has limited ability to characterize and differentiate lesions. Enhanced scanning can improve the ability to characterize lesions based on the presence, degree, pattern or type of enhancement, and can quickly make a qualitative diagnosis for typical cases.

⑷ Improve the accuracy of tumor staging and guide surgery. In addition to the above advantages, enhanced scanning is also helpful in staging confirmed malignant tumors. In addition, lesions with rich blood supply are prone to bleeding during surgery. Enhanced examination can show the blood supply arteries and even the drainage veins, which can provide guidance and suggestions for surgery and prevent complications such as bleeding and infection.

⑸It is helpful for distinguishing vascular and non-vascular structures. Enhanced scanning is also important for differentiating between vascular and non-vascular lesions, such as the differentiation between blood vessels and small lymph nodes. It is often difficult to differentiate between lymph nodes and blood vessels in the hilum, neck, pelvis and other parts of the body. Through enhanced scanning, the density difference between high-density blood vessels and unclearly enhanced lymph nodes increases, making them easy to distinguish.

⑹ Determine the effectiveness of tumor treatment. Generally speaking, tumor tissue has abundant blood supply. After chemotherapy, molecular targeted therapy, interventional embolization, radiotherapy, and radiofrequency treatment, changes in blood supply to the lesions are also an aspect of judging the efficacy.
