Serum γ-glutamyl transferase

Serum γ-glutamyl transferase

The human body is made up of different substances, and different substances have different effects on the human body. Serum r-glutamyl transferase is a very important transferase in the human body, and this transferase also has certain predictive significance for human health. Below, we will introduce the relevant knowledge about serum r-glutamyl transferase in detail.

1. What is serum r-glutamyl transferase

r-Glutamyltransferase GGT, formerly known as r-glutamyl transpeptidase r-GT, is an enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of the r-glutamyl group on glutathione to another peptide or another amino acid. GGT is mainly present on stem cell membranes and microsomes, and participates in the metabolism of glutathione. Although GGT is abundant in the kidney, liver, and pancreas, it mainly comes from the hepatobiliary system. Gamma-glutamyl transferase (γ-GT) belongs to the class of oxidoreductases and is a very important transferase in human serum.

2. Clinical Significance

Normal value: IU/L 0-40.

Abnormal results:

(1) Viral hepatitis: This is the most common disease that causes elevated transaminase levels. All types of acute and chronic viral hepatitis can lead to elevated transaminase levels.

(2) Many drugs and chemical agents in toxic hepatitis can cause elevated transaminase levels, but transaminase levels will return to normal after drug withdrawal.

(3) People who drink a lot or for a long time will also have elevated alanine aminotransferase levels.

(4) When cirrhosis and liver cancer cirrhosis are active, transaminases are higher than normal levels and should be actively treated.

(5) Acute attacks of biliary diseases such as cholecystitis and cholelithiasis often present with fever, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, jaundice, and elevated blood bilirubin and transaminase.

(6) In cases of acute myocardial infarction, myocarditis, or heart failure, both alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase levels are elevated, and patients often experience chest pain, palpitations, shortness of breath, and edema. Cardiac examination showed positive signs and abnormal electrocardiogram.

People who need to be checked: those who drink alcohol, stay up late, and are tired.

3. Related diseases

Hepatitis D in children, hepatitis C in children, myocardial infarction complicated by ventricular septal rupture, myocardial infarction complicated by mitral regurgitation, hepatitis E, hepatitis D, hepatitis C, cirrhosis, viral hepatitis in the elderly, acute hepatitis B, etc.
