Nowadays, many people are afraid that there is formaldehyde in their furniture, which will affect their health. Especially families with children will pay more attention to this detail, so they will worry about formaldehyde in iron beds. Paints and glues contain formaldehyde. If you paint the outside of an iron bed, it is the same as painting the outside of a wooden bed. The formaldehyde content depends on the specific quality of the bed you purchased.

Formaldehyde, chemical formula HCHO, formula weight 30.03, is also known as formic aldehyde. It is a colorless gas with a special pungent smell. It is irritating to the human eyes and nose. The relative density of the gas is 1.067 (air = 1) and the liquid density is 0.815 g/cm3 (-20°C). Melting point -92℃, boiling point -19.5℃. Soluble in water and ethanol. The concentration of the aqueous solution can be as high as 55%, usually 40%, which is called formaldehyde water, commonly known as formalin, a colorless liquid with a pungent odor.

2. During the production and processing of textiles, N-hydroxymethyl compounds containing formaldehyde are used as resin finishing agents to increase the elasticity of the fabric and improve wrinkle resistance. Cationic resins containing formaldehyde are also used to improve color fastness.

3. Causes formaldehyde residue problems in textiles. In addition, driven by economic interests, some lawless elements use formaldehyde as a food additive. For example, formaldehyde is added to water-soaked food to coagulate protein for preservation, improve appearance, and increase taste. Formaldehyde is added to alcoholic beverages to prevent turbidity and increase transparency. These will cause serious food pollution and harm human health. The Food Hygiene Law of the People's Republic of China has clearly stipulated that formaldehyde is prohibited as a food additive. It can be seen that formaldehyde pollution has spread to every corner of life, posing a serious threat to human health and should arouse people's high attention. Formaldehyde content has become an important safety indicator for pollution monitoring in homes, textiles and food today. Therefore, it will have great market prospects to study a formaldehyde detection method that is simple, sensitive, fast, intuitive, accurate and economical and can be completed independently by citizens in their own homes.

The main methods for detecting formaldehyde in living rooms, textiles and foods at home and abroad are: spectrophotometry, electrochemical detection, gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, sensor method, etc.
