How to preserve clams without dying

Clams are a kind of seafood. They taste very delicious and are popular with many people. When we buy clams, it is best to buy them when we eat them, and it is best to buy as many as you need. If you buy too much at one time, it involves the problem of preservation. If they are not preserved properly, it will lead to a decrease in nutrition or even deterioration. Generally speaking, clams are difficult to keep alive, but if properly maintained, they can survive for about 7 to 10 days.

How to preserve clams without dying

How to wash clams? It is best to buy seafood such as clams as you eat them. Buy only as much as you eat and do not buy too much at one time. As for the storage method, uncooked clams can be frozen in the refrigerator. There is no problem with freezing it normally for a month, but the seafood will no longer be fresh.

Clams are also a type of seafood, and have very high requirements for temperature when stored. Fresh clams are usually stored in water at 0 to 4 degrees. Once the clams die, they will quickly become tasteless and spoiled at temperatures above 10 degrees. The temperature for storing dead seafood is usually required to be below -18 degrees.

The refrigerator's freezer obviously does not have the ability to preserve dead clams, so clams can be placed in the refrigerator for short-term storage, and must be placed in the freezer for long-term storage.

Clams are creatures that live in saltwater lakes or seas. They are generally difficult to keep alive and can only last for 7-10 days at most. You need a larger space and it would be best if you also grow some saltwater (tap water with salt will do, remember to change the water frequently) plants. Add some better soil to the saltwater to grow the clams.

How to preserve the clams that you can’t finish eating?

When growing fish in salt water, the salt water must be very salty. How much salt is needed? The method is to add salt and wait for about 20 minutes until the clams start to show, which proves that they are salty enough. If it doesn't show up, continue adding salt. Finally, put the whole pot in the refrigerator. At night, the clams will spit out the mud and then wash them with clean water.

If clams open in the refrigerator, it's because the temperature inside the refrigerator is too high and the clams are no longer fresh. Normally, clams need to live in water at 0 degrees. If they are placed in the refrigerator, an environment of 4 to 10 degrees is not suitable. It is okay to keep them for a short time, but one day is a bit too long and they must be eaten cleanly. It is normal for clams to open their mouths in water. They may be spitting out sand. To tell whether they are dead and opening their mouths or just spitting out sand, you just need to take them out and smell them. If there is an obvious stench of rotten seafood, they are dead. Otherwise, they must be fresh. Don't eat dead seafood, it's unhealthy. To preserve seafood, it is recommended to place it in the variable temperature area of a three-door refrigerator. Otherwise, try to eat it all at once and do not store it in the refrigerator. If you really cannot finish it, freeze it in the freezer. The refrigeration temperature cannot meet the requirements.

How to choose fresh clams?

1. Buy at the right place: It is recommended to go to a larger seafood market nearby to choose. Seafood stalls usually place the seafood in multiple plastic frames. Don’t just pick from one frame; choose from different frames.

2. Fresh clams: When no one is stirring the water, the living clams will extend a relatively long "tongue". If you touch it with your hand, it will quickly retract. You can choose one by one from different boxes, but you need to be quick, otherwise they will be snatched away by others.

3. Dead clams: First, they cannot stick out their tongues. Second, some of the tongues that have stuck out can no longer be retracted, and their tongues have turned white in color. This kind of clams are not needed.

4. Tightly closed clams: Some clams are always tightly closed. For this kind, you can ignore it for now and observe it. Then choose from other boxes to see if it will stick out its tongue at you. If it does, take it home. If not, then you don’t have to pay attention to it and it’s best not to buy it.
